Man accused of exploiting Sen. Cochran's ill wife

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a conservative Mississippi blogger went into a nursing home, photographed the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran without permission and posted an image online as part of an anti-Cochran video.

Rose Cochran, 72, has lived at St. Catherine's Village since 2000 and has dementia.

Clayton Thomas Kelly, 28, of Pearl, was arrested Friday and charged with a felony, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, Madison police said. Kelly remained in the Madison County Detention Center on Saturday on $100,000 bond. It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

Police Sgt. Robert Sanders wouldn't identify Rose Cochran as the person who was photographed. Cochran attorney Don Clark said an unauthorized photo of Rose Cochran was taken in her nursing home room, near her bedside, and it was posted briefly online as part of a video.

What if he has no interest?

There are establishment Republicans(not Cochran- Cochran is a fiscal liberal okay on borders) who would sell out to Mexico. I wouldn’t put anything past them.

There is also crazy people.

I'm surprised he was able to get through St. Catherines to her room. I have two Aunts living there, and when we went to see them, one Aunt had to meet us in the front so we could get into the area where the residents rooms are located.

Interesting that Kelly seems to have planned it that he would be 'seen' with McDaniel, so that people would assume he was hired by McDaniel to do this. It could be that someone from Cochran's camp did this to try to make McDaniels look bad.

“You don’t have much experience with Alzheimers patients, do you?”

I’m only talking about this because of my experience. And she developed it at age 54. And she was alive and a person and a MARRIED person until the very end. Not being able to eat or breathe anymore killed her.

And it’s not okay to cheat on a spouse even if they can’t eat or breathe. It’s worse. Much, much worse than cheating on a well person. For the same reason crimes against children are so horrible — because of their absolute helplessness and vulnerability.

His behavior is an affront to Mrs. Cochran’s dignity as a LIVING person. And it’s an affront to everyone who has stayed with a sick spouse. — it’s an affront to us all. A healthy person, or even a person with an illness like cancer, could choose to walk away from the cheating bast****. Not poor Mrs. Cochran.

What evidence do you have other than a picture with McDaniel?

Puhleeze...you are turning a blind eye to readily available info. Kelly operates a four-letter word thingy called a blog. He also has a Youtube channel, Facebook, etc. If you actually wanted to learn the truth, you would find it.

When someone has advanced alzheimers, his/her body is there, s/he looks like the person you’ve known and loved, but their mind is not there. None of it. They don’t know you. She will look blankly at you as if she’s never seen you in her life. She doesn’t know why you’re even there. It’s gut-wrenchingly painful. In many ways it’s worse than the physical dying of your loved ones. No one who’s been thru that would refer to it as “very much alive.”

My husband’s great aunt had it. It’s in his family. I don’t know what your experience is, but you have my utmost sympathy. It’s a cruel disease.

My mother had it for ten years before she died. My dad was her main caregiver for all of those years until the last three months. He died and she followed soon after. You are so right. She did not know her own children.

A man with a sick wife shacked up with a woman not his wife...and enjoying all the perks..of a U.S. Senator

I'm with you on this one.

Good for him that he is still married.

But to be banging with the secretary is bad enough. On top of that to be claiming to "pay rent" to the bangee as she sports around the capital with him is wretchedly typical of the kind of slimy Washington double-dealing that for Cochran, after all these years, is no doubt second nature.

Typical RINO Senator, banging his “assistant” while they travel the world on our dime.

I appreciate your backing me up, but I disagree that he has earned even a “good for him that he is still married.”

When he’s breaking every marriage vow, staying married is no credit to him — it’s a disgrace. And it disgraces his helpless wife.

Also, since he’s taken another spouse, he should not get to make spousal care decisions. It’s a conflict of interest. What’s best for Mrs. Cochran may not necessarily coincide with what’s best for the shack-up sweetie.

An honorable man with her best interests at heart would divorce her so that her children could look out for her. But he’s not honorable. He just wants to be free to have sex with a woman not his wife without being divorced on paper. He doesn’t want people to think he’s the guy who left his wife with Alzheimer’s — when he IS that guy.

Well, I’m not buying it. He’s put his wife away. And he won’t own it. He’s a sitting U.S. senator with a sick wife who’s sexing up his “assistant” right out in the open, charging the taxpayers for her room and board and travel, and everyone is okay with it. Are we that kind of people in this country now? When did we become France?

If he divorced her, he could still support her financially. Or he could honor his marriage vows, lay off the Viagra and subscribe to Netflix. Lots of men his age do.

Do you have anything to back up your assertion that Cochran is a “womanizer?” Or that he’d even had an affair before his wife was institutionalized? Those are pretty strong and vile statements to make if based on conjecture only. It’s nowhere near the same as saying you oppose his political positions.

Is he having an affair while he’s married? Yes or no?

That’s womanizing.

If they’ll do it with you, they’ll do it to you.

No, I’m still with you.

I just mean that staying married is good policy.

Beyond that he is a slimeball and beneath contempt.

Having AN affair is not womanizing. Womanizing is what Bill Clinton did. It seems Sen. Cochran has had a single, ongoing affair with one woman since a few years after his wife was institutionalized. At that point, it’s 99.9% likely that Mrs. Cochran would not recognize him (or their children) when they were face to face. I’d not be so quick nor sanctimonious to judge, lest I be judged. How about you deal with your immortal soul, let Sen. Cochran deal with his, and I’ll deal with mine?
