WASHINGTON (AP) House Republican leaders intervened Friday to prevent a vote on U.S. immigration legislation, dealing a severe blow to election-year efforts to overhaul the widely denigrated system.
The move came after a Republican congressman announced plans to try to force a vote next week, over strong conservative opposition, on his measure creating a path to citizenship for immigrants who live here illegally yet serve in the military.
Rep. Jeff Denham labeled his bill the ENLIST Act and said he would seek a vote as an amendment to the popular annual defense bill, the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA.
In response, Doug Heye, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, said: "No proposed ENLIST amendments to NDAA will be made in order."
Heye said no stand-alone vote on the measure would be permitted, either.

Figure out which “must pass” bill will come up in the lame duck, and you’ll already know which bill it’ll be.
Once the dance has been decided on, all that remains is the choreography.
Let me say something that most conservatives reading this column won’t agree with: we don’t deserve to get more of the black vote.
I hate this. I wish the founders had made an Amendment that stated any bill could only deal with its one main issue, Defense is for defense, not immigration or education or farming etc. You want an immigration bill you write an immigration bill and vote it up or down. Do not sneak it into other things...........
Now that our Dear Leader changes the rule of law with his every want and whim; I can not say for certain.
A green card and US residency, to enlist and US citizenship to become an officer.
John Boehner: “D*mn it guys, you’re moving too early, you’re screwing it up. After the primaries, after the primaries.”
Allegedly written by Governor Jan Brewer in response to the Phoenix Suns owners opposition to Arizonas illegal immigration law.
What if the owners of the Suns discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying? What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldnt be ejected. Furthermore, what if Suns ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink? And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide free medical care and shelter?HAT TIP: http://grouchyoldcripple.com/2014/04/illegal-immigration-analogy/
Great question and if you get an answer, please ping me. We need to fix legal immigration as well. I don’t know your situation, but the legal means to emigrate to America are an utter, tyrannical mess.
I married their Russian mother. Their immigration was automatic. Eleven years later, we (their mother and they) are happy Americans.
More moderates will vote for a GOP that moves to control the border than amnestied Hispanics ever would.
I'm a Constitutionalist.
All the amnesty "reform" bills favored by democrats and other traitors, will only speed the destruction.
Cantor must be running scared of a challenger...
Good idea prior to the election, but in the lame duck, any gop-e who have lost and any gop-e who intend to retire or any gop-e who can be bought will side with democrats as Boehner ignores the Hastert rule one more time.
Personally I don't believe that statement for a second. You mean ANYONE can just show up and walk into a recruiting office and enlist in the military without any form of photo ID, or notorized birth certificate or SS ID? I think that Rino Rep Jeff Dunham is lying through his teeth, trying to make it appear as if illegal aliens in the military is a "fait accompli". BULLS__T! I don't believe that for a second and I further don't believe this RINO bastard Jeff Dunham!
I hope he is being primaried by some conservative Tea Party candidate!
Lots of problems. Their allegiance won’t be to this country, especially if we are in a war with the country they are from.
Excellent post. You point out the hypocrisy very pointedly ;)
“More moderates will vote for a GOP that moves to control the border than amnestied Hispanics ever would.”
I’ll go one step further - many conservatives like myself will never vote GOP again if they push for amnesty. (Not that it would matter, conservatism will be dead once millions of parasitic, democrat voters are given citizenship.)
That has to be something done through the USSC. Well reasoned *ahem* debate in the Congress versus a single Executive writing Law. I somewhat doubt that’s what the framers of the Constitution had in mind the regards to the Executive Branch.
