A May 7th solicitation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks "the commercial acquisition of submachine guns [in] .40 Cal. S&W."

According to the solicitation, the Dept. of Agriculture wants the guns to have an "ambidextrous safety, semiautomatic or 2 round [bursts] trigger group, Tritium night sights front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore group) and scope (top rear), stock collapsible or folding," and a "30 rd. capacity" magazine. They also want the submachine guns to have a "sling," be "lightweight," and have an "oversized trigger guard for gloved operation."

As always in government, follow the money, see who benefits.

The war on drugs has expanded the power of the statists beyond the imagining of those around at its “humble” beginning.

Well, I still need somebody to explain to me why any Federal agencies other than Treasury (Secret Service) and FBI have any role in law enforcement.

Comrades! You cannot have a pogrom without machine guns. All power flows from the barrel of a gun.

Instead of harvesting the crops with fossil fuel-guzzling equipment, they can simply mow down the crops with bursts of submachine gun fire - environment saved!

Obama is arming his left wing departments for the coming civil war...

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." - Barack Obama, 2008

Soon ever "civilian" agency will look like this:

Delivering your farm subsidy in person, it's the Dept of Agriculture!

Subversive tomatoes. Angry peppers. Insurrectionist corn.

But seriously, this is entirely f***** up.

Ok...

But why 30 round magazines?

Didn’t all the liberal gun experts deride anyone who needed that many as being such a bad shot, they shouldn’t be trusted with a weapon?

Can’t the Forest Service shoot a drug runner with just 8 rounds?

What on earth could they use 30 for?

Nothing to see here! Haven’t you been warned enough by certain fellow FReepers that there is nothing unusual about such purchases and its only those of the ‘tin foil hat’ crowd who would find this the least bit disconcerting.

So true, so funny. (:

Now can you explain to me why the Department of Education and the IRS need SWAT teams?

Haven't a clue. I know that the IRS tracks down tax violators but I don't see where that should need a SWAT team. And maybe the DOE has some real hard-core truants?

Are they going to use their .40 pistol round in a sub-gun? May not cycle properly.
Open or closed bolt? Don’t want those little rounds cooking off in a closed bolt.

2 round burst? Why have a MG that only shoots twice?

What about ‘green ammo’? Aren’t they environmentally aware?

Are they going to have a less than lethal version?

Will they try to go up against a 7.62x39 semi-auto? or .223 ? or 12 guage?

Things got to change—This is a Conservative nightmare—This should be cancelled and the Department closed! This is more like some 3rd world failed state.
