Clippers basketball team owner, in interview billed as apology for racist remarks, slings insults at HIV-positive former NBA star
It was billed as an apology for racist comments that created a firestorm but the Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has unleashed a new row by launching a searing attack on Magic Johnson and wealthy African Americans.
The tycoon used an interview aired on Monday to apologise for the tirade against black people caught on tape last month but then depicted Johnson, who has HIV, of being a womanising disease-carrier.
In what may become a case study in how not to defuse a crisis, Sterling, a national pariah who is battling to keep his basketball team, also accused wealthy black people of being stingy philanthropists in contrast to Jews such as himself.
The 80-year-old, speaking to CNN's Anderson Cooper in his first television interview since the crisis broke, insisted he was no racist and asked forgiveness for making derogatory comments about black people in the leaked tape, saying he had been baited into doing so.

Don Sterling is a foul individual. Thankfully he is 81. I mean the guy has no shame. I have seen bumbling idiots before but he make take the cake.
True Magic Johnson may be a cad, but that has nothing to do with the stupid statements Sterling is spouting.
I think what Lebron was attempting to say was; All white people have to die.
Well.....when you listen to Sterling.....can anybody blame him...../kinda sarc.
He’s 80. He can claim dementia at any time.
Popcorn!!!
Speaking of racism LeBron how about that twitter account of your?
Your mental capacity can only fill one bathroom stall in the AA Arena—leave the talking to the corporate folks eh?
What the heck does the 4th amendment have to do with this? The 4th amendment only applies to secret recordings made by the police (or other government agency), not by private citizens. AND, his most recent comments were made in an interview.
Apparently truth is no longer a defense.
And here we have Sterling embarrassing himself on national TV, whimpering, crying and begging forgiveness for ‘offending’ the protected class by something he said privately- just like Paula Deen. Disgusting.
Better to keep you mouth shut and make people wonder if you are a fool, then to open it, and eliminate all doubt.
So Mr. Sterling is on a tear about how Magic Johnson got HIV from a sleeping around with women who weren’t his wife?
What has Mr. Sterling been doing?
Pot, meet kettle.
It was all over the Los Angeles radio stations yesterday that Sterling has been rejected as a client by at least 8 high profile law firms in LA and SF.
Just curious, Are the statements made by Donald Sterling TRUE??
LA has enough blood sucking attorneys believe me one will jump on it like stink on DO-DO.
The meter will start spinning like a top.
Really don’t care much for Pro bball. The NCAA playoffs is about all I follow, then it’s baseball and golf and finally the NFL.
Yes this is not a 4th amendment case.
Here in Florida it is a FELONY TO record ANY conversation without the consent of everyone involved.
Funny thing about this guy, he may be abhorrant, but at least he doesn’t lie - we worship constant liars like Obama and Hillary.
I read the article. I have no interest in researching Sterling’s life. The quotes in the article about Magic Johnson seem accurate enough, and they are what the uproar is about - not what Sterling may have said in court at some time.
I loathe pro basketball and pro football. They have become leaders in promoting rotten behavior in America. They accept thugs and criminal behavior, but they bath themselves in political correctness.
Magic Johnson did have sex with a lot of women and it has caused him problems. Even someone who hasn’t followed pro basketball in years knows that.
