Clay Aikens opponent in the Democratic primary for North Carolinas Second Congressional District seat, Keith Crisco, died today, according to the company he owned, Asheboro Elastics Corporation.
The textile entrepreneur and former state commerce secretary died at his home around 1:30 p.m., the company said. He had fallen, a spokesperson for the company told ABC News, but no other information was immediately available.
At the time of his death, the race was still too close to call. Aiken was leading Crisco by just 369 votes

Mike Michaud who is now running for Gov in Maine outed himself before others did.
I wish he was a Republican. I love how successful the American Idols are. So many are doing very good things.
They called him the Crisco kid. Because he was fat in the can.
Where was Hillary?
What does she know about this and when did she know it?
Never use Crisco as a lubricant for sex. It’s shortening, BATTABOOM
Brad Crone, a political strategist and longtime friend of Criscos, said he had
just spoken to Crisco Monday morning. They were finalizing plans to announce on
Tuesday morning that he would concede the election to Clay Aiken.

Clay Aiken can be called the “Accidental candidate”
In response to the mean spirited jokes and negative commentary about Keith Crisco from people who don’t know him I’d like to respond. I knew Keith for many years in the business world and as NC Secretary of Commerce. He was a decent and amiable man. I found him to always be above board and honest in his business dealings. He was a straight shooter and extremely devoted to his family. He also kept a family textile company afloat during the downsizing and outsourcing of much of the industry, preserving good middle class jobs in his community. His genuine caring for his employees and community was admirable in an era when cold hearted executives of multinational corporations eliminate tens of thousands of jobs and destroy entire communities without a second though. Perhaps Mitt Romney could learn a few things from Mr. Crisco.
His politics were traditional pragmatic blue dog Democrat, not the leftist Marxism that has taken over the party. In talking to him before the election I truly believe he wanted to be a voice of moderation in his party and work to bridge between his party and the Republican party. While our politics differed, I had great respect for his motivations and integrity.
Our nation is polarized today and politics are filled with hate and venom. When conservatives denigrate a decent man they don’t know on this forum it only contributes to the anger and hate that tears our nation apart.
Who is Cook Ies? Does he have a cooking show on t.v.? :o)
"Uh, I know you two had absolutely nothing to do with the death which was completely accidental...but just ONE more question..."
“Aikencide”?
I encourage everyone to make jokes when I kick the bucket. If I’m on my deathbed I’m going to demand my doctor hooks my IV up to a bottle of fine scotch. If my lungs still work I’m going to take up cigar smoking. If I get creamed while riding my bike I want jokes that (At least he was carbon neutral.) If I choke to death on a spotted owl roast the jokes will fly. My family will get over it...
Oh?
Anybody seen Hillary in the district?
Not Clay’s first time to make crisco disappear.
Yeah. Actually, your family may get over your loss faster if they ease the distress with a little humor. At least that has been the case in my family.
