Leadership of the "Donetsk People's Republic" has declared independence of the region and has sough accession to Russia.
"Upon the results of the referendum held on May 11, 2014 and based on the sovereignty declaration of the Donetsk People's Republic, we, people of the Donetsk People's Republic, declare that from now on the Donetsk People's Republic is a sovereign state," co-chairman of the "Donetsk People's Republic" government Denis Pushilin said at a news conference on Monday.
"We ask to consider the issue of accession of the Donetsk People's Republic to Russia," Pushilin said.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, "our people still hoped that Ukraine, Russia and Belarus will restore their historical unity," Pushilin said. "This hope crashed completely in March 2014, when the Kyiv junta professing neo-Nazi fascist ideology seized power in Ukraine during the revolt," he said

The “People’s Republic”. What a joke. Don’t worry. Whatever “wealth” they currently have will soon disappear.
Can you imagine the impossibility, and inhumaness of loading up 15 million ethnic Russian folks and dropping them off at the border of Russia? That would work out about as well as rounding up 15 million Hispanics in the United States, and dropping them off at the border of Mexico. It’s not going to happen in either case. But it’s a lesson in language and cultural differences that we should keep in mind, for the continued cohesiveness of our own country.
If they wish to stay, they need to play by the rules.
They have thus far refused to lay down their weapons, wish means they will not get to vote in the election. Their choice, but don’t cry about the consequences of the election in about 10 days.
