Hmmmmm. I wonder if the writer really considered the words towards his closing paragraph: "Those who would take up arms to force their will on others are threatening our freedom, not defending it." Once a dolt, always a dolt. Some of the responses are uh, shall we say, interesting.

Only the King’s men should have semi-automatic & automatic weapons, for dealing with peasants who get out of line, like Cliven Bundy.

If it’s true that “assault weapons” are “weapons of war” and don’t belong on the streets of America, why do the police need them? Who are the police at war with?

It seems that Holder's plan to brainwash people against guns is working in some circles.

Here is another sentence but writer mush not have understood. "In a civil society, policies are established by the legislature and disputes are settled by the courts.

Society has long ago ceased to be civil in some areas. People that live in the uncivil areas arm themselves for safety against the uncivil. Those in safe areas arm to stay safe. Legislative policies are not designed to resolve disputes, they are designed to give certain people more power over others. Most legislation removes freedom rather than secure it. People arm themselves to protect there families, towns, counties etc. against the ever oppressive government. The latter is exactly what our forefathers were concerned with.

By the time the militia reached Pittsburgh, the rebels had dispersed and could not be found. The militia apprehended approximately 150 men and tried them for treason. A paucity of evidence and the inability to obtain witnesses hampered the trials. Two men, John Mitchell and Philip Weigel, were found guilty of treason, though both were pardoned by President Washington. By 1802, then President Thomas Jefferson repealed the excise tax on whiskey.

As far as the left is concerned, Americans cannot
be trusted with these high capacity lead delivery systems.

Read this letter in the paper yesterday and came unglued! What a friggin’ idiot! But, the Ledger WILL always print those kinds of letters, now that it’s part of the St. Pete, err, Tampa Bay Times!

Now you see why the Feds are so intent on dumbing down our kids through Public Schools.

They fail to recognize the Tyranny imposed OUTSIDE of the Constitutional process this writer pretends to be the source of the Tyranny.

We have courts and executive orders circumventing the Constitutional process to impose Tyranny, and this clown can’t see that.

The Lakeland Ledger was a collectivist rag back when I was growing up in Tampa. Even though it was a business account of my father’s, I knew from him it was as “liberal’ as the St Pete Times of Poynter Institute infamy.

Commies have been active in Florida for generations.

Electronic media is killing them off.

The anti-gunners have done a complete 180 turn on the significance of the Militia clause of the Second Amendment.

Initially it meant EVERYTHING. Only members of a government-controlled "Well-Regulated Militia" could own weapons, which would obviously include M16s.

Now that the Supreme Court has explained that the right includes weapons for self-defense, the anti-gunners would now state that the Militia clause means NOTHING. Only the government can possess M16s and the citizenry is limited to weapons that are only suited to self-defense and no other purpose.

We can only hope that soon the anti-gunners will become dizzy and pass out from exhaustion so that we get a break from their illogical nonsense.

The idjit wrote about Washington using troops to quell the Whiskey rebellion. He seems to forget about a little insurrection called the revolution. Seems like Geo. Washington had a small part in that.

No one mentioned that Washington made a lot of money running stills making whiskey. Just saying.

Scroll just a bit farther until the headline that reads, “Officer shoots aggressive dog in Hampton.”

Armed citizens aren’t the problem, Bruce. Because you’ve chosen to be mentally disarmed is no reason to impose idiocy on others.

It's not an article. It's just a Letter to the Editor. It classes with semi-news, semi-satire. Bruce has a right to his opinion. Actually, downtown Lakeland is a good place to carry concealed.

BTW, maybe Bruce is dismayed with the NRA because Lakeland has a really fine, active, well-organized gun club.
