The office of the speaker of the House released this list of members chosen for the Benghazi Select Committee:
WASHINGTON, DC House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today named the seven Republican members of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. The Select Committee also provides for five Democratic members, and those names will be released when provided by the House Minority Leader. Boehner issued the following statement:
This investigation is about getting answers for the families of the victims and for the American people. These members have each demonstrated a commitment to this goal, and I have confidence that they will lead a serious, fact-based inquiry. As I have expressed to each of them, I expect this committee to carry out an investigation worthy of the American lives lost in Benghazi. I also urge my Democratic colleagues to treat this tragedy with the proper respect and appoint members so that we can finally, on a bipartisan basis, get answers, provide accountability, and help deliver justice. It is critical that this committee do its work in a focused, timely manner, so that the House can continue to make the economy and job creation its priorities.
The Republican members of the Select Committee will be:
- Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN)
- Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman
- Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
- Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS)
- Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL)
- Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL)
- Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA)
Welcome to my list.
GA FReeper ping. Lynn Westmoreland of the GA 3rd Congressional District is on the House committee investigating Benghazi.
Creepy kind of list. Well whatever. Everybody needs a hobby.
America's rebirth isn't possible by normal methods. The system is rotted out from the foundation.
With 6” heels, she’s shouldn’t have to buy her own wine...
What is actually most important is the staff that will be assembled to support the committee. We most likely will never know their names.
Susan Brooks was a US Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana and has quite of experience in supervising Prosecutions and Law Enforcement.
Unfortunately the GOP has time and again held dog and pony shows to keep a lid on the the right wing of the party. We are YEARS into how many official investigations now? To no positive end. That is the definition of a dog and pony show.
There is a good reason to be MORE than skeptical here. I am quite sure we all want this to be the real deal. But to give benefit if the doubt casually with their track record? No.
I hope they do their job and uphold their oaths. I’ll also ‘trust but verify’. They destroyed any freely given trust through their actions. It is up to THEM to rebuild it.
Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN5) released the following statement after being asked to serve on the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi:
Serving on this select committee is a solemn responsibility. Four Americans were killed in the tragic September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on our embassy in Benghazi, Libya. Many questions about the events that took place before, during and in the aftermath of the attack still exist. We have a duty to the families of the victims and the American people to unveil the whole truth of this tragic incident and seek appropriate accountability.
Id like to thank Speaker Boehner for the trust he has placed in me to help conduct a fair and thorough investigation. Representative Gowdy is uniquely qualified to lead this effort and I look forward to working with him and the other members of the select committee.
Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks is a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana and former Deputy Mayor for the city of Indianapolis. Prior to serving in Congress, she was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Ivy Tech Community College. She currently serves on the House Committees on Ethics, Homeland Security and Education and the Workforce.
Boner doesn’t like Gohmert so he don’t make the team, what is this grade school?
Nancy Pelosi agrees with you 100%. Give THAT a think, Norm. Can we at least "wait and see?"
I’ll be shocked if any of these women could hold a candle to the brilliance of Gohmert’s prosecutorial skills. Bob
sigh
Really? What is with the female bashing?
Optics ARE important..but that’s beside the point.
I don’t miss Old America if it means bashing women or men.
Please point out where exactly my post contains an error or an untruth. If not, I expect a retraction. Comparing what I said with Pelosi makes you look like you have an agenda. Because Pelosi isn’t about to ‘trust but verify’. Take that up with Reagan if it is an issue for you.
Beck said what? Seriously, who is still listening to this clown?
“Have an agenda..” I don’t even know what that means.
My point is simply that Boehner finally does something right, gets us a good man at the helm; yet the glass half empty contingent will not be dissuaded from their negativity.
How is it helpful to declare defeat before the battle begins?
No retraction from me.
No point either. Because Bhoner did not do this out of a burning sense of great and mighty justice. He got dragged kicking and screaming into it to hold his speakership.
And since you will neither show any flaw in my statement nor retract, the issue is apparent.
I know it’s important for you to win. And I recognize your style of argumentation.
OK - you win what whatever it is you are going for.
finis
No, you made an unsupportable statement. you directly compared what I said to Pelosi. I want you to back it up, not hit and run like a Democrat. I don’t think that’s too much to ask a fellow Freeper. It isn’t about arguing ‘styles’ or ‘winning’ or anything else.
Now show the class where Pelosi says she will trust but verify. Show where she agrees with anything I said. If you want to casually throw around unsupportable talking points, back it up. If not, so be it. It’s your credibility in the tank, not mine.
We can bet our bippies that it was chairman TREY GOWDY doing the selecting for the committee with Boehner allowed to take the credit.
Sheesh, anyone can tell from the surprisingly conservative list that Boehner certainly didn't get to pick the GOP-establishment dorks he undoubtedly wanted.
Maybe they let him pick one name on the list and then told him to sit down and shut up.
