The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office pulled its deputies off the streets Thursday afternoon and asked other local law enforcement agencies to respond to calls of service after a number of newly purchased duty weapons failed gun range testing, officials said.
"We recently purchased over 300 Sig Sauer .40-caliber handguns, and during qualification on the range, a couple of them failed," said Deputy Les Garcia, a Sheriff's Office spokesman. "Our range master contacted Sig, and Sig identified a part in this gun that will potentially cause them to malfunction."

Just goes to show, there is never a bad reason to buy another gun.
My first thought.
They musta had Bloomberg destroy them.
I also own an older XD9. No problem with it, other than the grip.
Glock fits the hand better to me. And I’ve also thrown some cheap ammo through it, hollowpoint, hardball, and it swallowed it fine and spit it out fine as well.
But I’ve carried my G19 every day for the last ten years, and to me, it’s the AK47 of the handgun world... ultra reliable, utilitarian, and rocksolid rugged.
I was just stirring the pot, heheh! Knew people would bite on it...I expect the 1911 gunnies to start berating me anytime now...
The only Sig/Sauer which ever jammed with me was a P-225 and that was with a PMC 90 grain HP. I believe the ammo was more at fault than the gun but still made me not trust the gun.
I tried the same load in a Walther P-38 and it jammed a few times too. I eventually just shot up the remains of two boxes of the PMC ammo in a Browning Hi-Power with no problems.
I have come to believe that double stack mags are more reliable than single stack.
In other news, household pets in San Joaquin County breathed a sigh of relief, and doughnut shops braced for the increased business!
I do not think I have ever heard of a “failed gun range test” by a S&W Highway Patrolman or a Colt Trooper.
I know my Highway Patrolman has worked flawlessly for going on 50 years.
I’m waiting for parts as we speak.
Maybe someone at Sig is a dog lover.
“...never a bad reason to buy another gun....”
Well, to be properly dressed, the fashionable and well-dressed gunny should ALWAYS have at least one for each hand, and one to go with EVERY outfit you might conceivably wear...
This is just common sense!!!
You wouldn’t want something that clashes with your ensemble, now would you?
A nice brace of matched 1858 Remington New Armys goes with ALL fine gentlemen’s apparel, paired up with a fine leather bandolier under the sport jacket.
And the ladies love it...
:^)
And the ladies love it...
Top it off (or bottom it off, as the case may be) with one of these, and the ladies will like it even more.
They are fun as hell to shoot too!, and cheap at that!
A SIG failing???
The rivers are drying up and the sky has turned purple!
“*Deputies refused to describe the description of the failed part, but some range personnel called it female/queer limp wristing”
ROFL!
My S&W 625 used to have repeated lockup from screws backing out. I finally solved the problem with loctite.
They're seriously off the rails on quality, and the most shameful thing about it is that they used to be at the pinnacle of quality and customer satisfaction.
This statement is purely my opinion, but SIG Sauer and especially SIG USA is today manufacturing at about the same level of competency as Taurus.
Hard to believe that SIG Sauer used to rival Heckler-Koch in quality and functionality.
More like Sig doesn’t want this to stay in the news. CBP bought enough HK P2000s that most agents will be carrying those their whole career, unfortunately, exposure to salt water climates caused problems with a portion of the firing pin assembly that is not servicable by the user so the marine units switched to Glock.
Local police use Sig 220s. Sig rep dropped off a new model for them to try.
Jammed often. Don’t know what model except they’re .45.
After all, this is Stockton CA.
The Glock doesn't fit my hand as well, isn't as comfortable to shoot, but it is tiny, accurate, and functions flawlessly.
