Beverly Hills Bans Fracking
National Review ^

Beverly Hills Bans Fracking Daniel Halper May 9, 2014 11:43 AM

Beverly Hills has banned fracking. Which makes it "the first municipality in California to prohibit the controversial technique for extracting natural gas and oil from underground rock deposits," according to Reuters.

As Gary Schmitt of the American Enterprise Institute comments, "The City Council of Beverly Hills has unanimously voted to ban hydraulic fracking within the city’s boundaries. Obviously, the movie and television industry is doing well enough that no one needs the extra cash that might come from accessing underground deposits of natural gas. Plus ... it’s really difficult to get those drilling rigs into place! We’re still waiting, however, for Beverly Hills to ban pedophilia."

The vote wasn't even close, says Reuters:

The unanimous vote by the Beverly Hills city council gives final approval to fracking ban, which was given the initial go-ahead by the panel last month. Council members, five of whom voted in favor of the ban, did not publicly discuss the measure on Tuesday. It will take effect on June 6.

Beverly Hills is one of the nation's most affluent cities and is home to numerous luxury retailers, but it is not untouched by the oil industry. Oil drilling has for decades occurred at Beverly Hills High School, but the city council in 2011 voted to bring that to an end in 2016.

LOL. If it will make them a boatload of money; they will reverse it; even in secret.

It's been about 12 years since my friend's son (he's a son of Denis Wilson of the Beach Boys) came down with Lymphoma (treatment worked). Several of his classmates at Beverly Hills High also came down with Lymphoma around the same time. They had an oil well on the school playground when he was attending school there.

Last I heard, the class-action suit against the school is in progress, and being headed up by Erin Brockovich.

More Liberal do-gooding that means nothing. If Beverly Hills really was serious about stooping FRACKING, they would ban the sale of any and all Petroleum products in the City. Thus citizen would have to buy certified FRACK Free gasoline at a 50% premium. Let’s see then how committed these guys are to the abolition of fracking!

If we could mine Botox in Beverly Hills, the National Debt could be paid off in a week.

They did that years ago. Right after they promptly gave up using toilet paper. :(

Tax them enough to make up for the lost revenue.

Beverly Hills probably has the natural resources that almost single-handedly would pull California out of its economic funk.

First, they cut off all irrigation water for the lawns, and divert this flow to the agricultural areas, thus enabling the state to regain its high levels of production that has fed itself and America so well. Then, confiscate all wealth in Beverly Hills in excess of $l00,000 (not income, you understand, but WEALTH), and use that fund to retire the outstanding bonds the state legislature has authorized to finance all the old schemes for state welfare, and put it all on a pay-as-you-go basis. Then, the now depopulated locality is declared unincorporated area, and subject to the same laws that apply to all other unincorporated areas in the state of California.

After the area is disincorporated, then the fracking may proceed, and the cash flow into the state coffers fully compensates for whatever revenues the old iteration of Beverly Hills.

This reminds me of a maryland suburb of WDC (takoma park) becoming a “nuclear free zone” several years ago. They have never had nuclear anything. Also, the LIBs infecting the area have allowed illegal aliens to vote in their elections for several years. Moonbats...asshats.

“Fracking” in Beverly Hills is some sort of plastic surgery.
