A 27-year-old Japanese man has been arrested for illegally possessing handguns made by a 3D printer, local media has said, marking the first such case in Japan, a country that takes pride in its low crime rate.
Police in April found five plastic guns and a 3D printer at the suspect's home in Kawasaki, south of Tokyo.
Two of the handguns were later proved capable of killing or wounding people, although no bullets were found at his home, public broadcaster NHK said.

I thought they actually had stricter law there.
Possession in Tokyo and Nagano prefectures is legal unless they changed it very recently but they didn’t. Last time they tried to change it, there was a massive protest. Pervert Nation.

Japan’s low crime-rates have NOTHING to do with it’s gun laws —it’s a culture that largely polices itself.
In fact here is the situation in Japan —cops have guns, and professional criminals have guns.
From a democratic perspective, just how palatable is that?I should add that in Japan the public prosecutor can hold you in jail, incommunicado and WITHOUT CHARGES for 24 days, often under round-the-clock questioning.
In fact the Japanese case is exactly what the Founding Fathers were trying to avoid, quite apart from crime rates.
Weasel-wording. The guns are not capable of anything. They exist. A person is capable of killing or wounding other people, using just about anything.
That was my thought as well. Anybody who can use a 3D machine to make a functioning gun should easily find a way to create bullets or shells. Its all just a matter of time.

The bullet and the case wouldn’t be much of a problem. The primer and powder is not something that can be printed.
Would be easier to make modern day gyro jet 3D pistols, bullets are actually rockets, don’t need primers or powders but save basically rocket propellant.
Gyrojets were made many years ago but are not effective at close ranges, you could actually dodge them, but they sped up faster as they traveled.
