~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada

Nellis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base, in Clark County, Nevada, on the northeast side of Las Vegas. An installation of the Air Combat Command (ACC), Nellis is the location of United States Air Force Warfare Center and a major training location for both U.S. and foreign fighter aircraft aircrews.

The base is named for William Harrell Nellis, a Las Vegas resident and Air Force P-47 pilot who died in action during the Battle of the Bulge.

Nellis, an integral part of the United States Air Force’s Air Combat Command, is known as the “Home of the Fighter Pilot.” It is the pinnacle of advanced air combat aviation training.

The base’s all-encompassing mission is accomplished through an array of aircraft: A-10; F-15C; F-15E; F-22A; F-16; RQ-1A and MQ-1 Predator remotely piloted aircraft; and HH-60G helicopters. Nellis’ work force of approximately 12,000 military and civilian people makes it one of the largest single employers in southern Nevada.

Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., is one of the largest fighter bases in the world. Aircraft from Nellis operate on the Nevada Test and Training Range, which offers more than 15,000 square miles of airspace and 4,700 square miles of restricted land.

More than 75 percent of all live munitions used by the Air Force for training are dropped on the Nevada Test and Training Range. Many communities in southern Nevada see and hear Nellis aircraft 24 hours a day, seven days a week. From 100 feet above the ground to twice the speed of sound, Nellis conducts advanced combat training, performs operational test and evaluation, and develops tactics.

The U.S. Air Force Demonstration Team, The Thunderbirds, is located at Nellis Air Force Base.

The 3600th Air Demonstration Team was declared operational on June 1, 1953, although the team itself had been together and practicing for about 6 weeks prior. At this time the team had no name. There already were the Sky-Blazers, Blue Angels, Acrojets, and now the 3600th Air Demonstration Team? This just wouldn't do. During June 1953, a contest was held at Luke AFB, home of the 3600th, to pick a name for the new team. The name chosen was "Thunderbirds".

Thank you! P.S. The A-10—I used to swoon over the F-2’s until I read about the A-10!

It's time for the

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families.

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

Making a quick run-through to say hello.

Need to catch up on pings before
people start showing up for work.

Monday was crazier than normal.
There was a fatal accident on the road that leads to work,
and all lanes were closed while they did investigation.

Off to make my rounds,
catch up on pings while it's still quiet.
Please stay.

Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes,
conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.

I think there is a tree that is casting out its noxious pollen right now, because my sinuses are killing me! Nonstop. The headache has been in progress 36 HOURS now. (sigh)

But I am soldiering on. Luckily, Terrible Tuesday will be a little shorter today because of other activities scheduled for the kids. (End of the School Year)

Happy Itsnotmonday Beachie! Decent weather out here, I really need to start walking more. I see obama is coming out with his “climate change” report, get ready for more taxes. Elections do have consequences. As Bray would say: Wake-up America! Have a grandocious day!

Well, we're watching today for extreme fire danger especially out in Western Oklahoma. I'm sure you've heard about the fires in Logan County on the National news.

And, we're crossing our fingers and hoping for rain tomorrow and Thursday but there may also be some severe weather as well.

It's an absolute mess we have going on here in Oklahoma.
