House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said House Republicans on Cinco de Mayo should be as courageous as the Mexican militia that defeated the French army in the Battle of Puebla to pass amnesty legislation.
Pelosi, who has said that passing amnesty legislation would be more important to her than becoming Speaker again, said "the time is now for comprehensive immigration reform" and for "House Republicans to emulate the bravery demonstrated in the Battle of Puebla, recognize the importance of immigrants and family unification, and give us a vote on a comprehensive bill that reforms our broken immigration system."
As we look back on a seminal moment in history, let us also look forward to the best ways we can continue to embrace the diverse heritage and rich history of Latinos in the United States," Pelosi said in a statement. "There is no better way to acknowledge the important contributions to our country of Americas Latino community than by enacting comprehensive immigration reform."
Even though the Congressional Budget Office has determined that amnesty legislation would lower the wages of American workers and detrimentally impact Hispanics on the lower end of the economic ladder, Democrats and Republicans backed by big-business and the high-tech industry have been relentless in advocating for sweeping amnesty legislation....

>>A Mexican battle with the French....Nothing to do with America. Even Mexicans up here dont care much for it...its almost strictly a white thing.<<
More of a Norteamericano Cervesa thing.
But you are right, about zero meaning to Mexicans in Mexico.

Why isn't America making a holiday of North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un? Why are offending the North Koreans? A statue of him should be immediately erected on the national mall and all who pass by it should bow to it. We are offending Nancy Pelosi and the North Koreans by not doing this.
Let's be really multicultural.
Peace and Love to everyone.

However, in the US, it is a one-time beer promotion that has become an institution.

Only the ignorant, illiterate and unsophisticated actually believe this is a real holiday!
I suppose we could add 'senile'

I prefer to celebrate Ocho de Mayo, when on May 8th, 1846 an American army of twenty-two hundred defeated a Mexican army half again larger at the Battle of Palo Alto and drove the Mexicans off of US soil. Yeah!
I could drink to that.
Ocho de Mayo... Woo hooo!

The best way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo is to return all the illegal immigrants in the United States to the country where the holiday is most commonly celebrated. That would be Arizona or thereabouts.
That holiday is as genuine as Kwanzaa!

What does a holiday commemorating Mexico’s victory over Napoleon’s nephew and an Austrian regent have to do with the United States or with immigration policy?

That map of the US graces the office of every supporter of “path to citizenship” for illegals.
