An 11-year-old New Jersey boy was shot dead over the weekend when his uncle was showing off a number of guns that he thought were unloaded, and pointed one with a laser sight at the childs forehead.
The Pocono Record reported that State Police responded to reports of shots fired in a gated community in Delaware Township at around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a police report, the 11-year-old child was visiting the home of his grandfather. The boy allegedly asked his uncle, 34-year-old Chad Olm, who lives in the basement, to see his gun collection.
Olm told police that he opened his security safe and began showing his weapons to the nephew, and his son, who was also present. He insisted that he did not keep the guns loaded.
After letting the boys handle three handguns a .357 Magnum revolver, a .22 revolver and a 9 mm he then pulled out a Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun that was equipped with a laser sight.
Olm stated that he did not check to see if there was a round in the chamber, but said that the handgun did not have a magazine in it. Olm said that he pointed the laser at the walls and ceiling. And then he pointed it at his nephew.
Look, you have a red dot on your forehead, Olm recalled one of the boys saying.
Olm said that when the nephew reached out for the gun, he pulled the trigger. A single bullet struck the child above the eye, causing him to start bleeding and fall over.

My heart skipped a beat once when I checked a gun I knew to be unloaded and found a round in the chamber. I would NEVER, EVER get to steps 2,3,4 of assuming it’s unloaded, pointing it at someone and pulling a trigger.
I know that electrical rule.....been an electronics tech in the Navy and for the Navy for 36 years.
HORRIBLE.
But accidents happen, be it cars, horses, lawn mowers, etc.
The thing to remember is that there are 330 MILLION Americans, with almost that many guns. There will be STUPID and CARELESS people with some of these guns. The accident rate will never be zero.
The question to ask is whether the non-story of the kid being DECAPITATED by a first-generation airbag (as happened much more frequently than this kind of accident) is any less significant than a gun accident.
And if you leave, when you come back CHECK TO SEE THAT IT IS STILL OFF.

I am simply expressing an opinion, but in my view, those who point a loaded gun at a child’s skull and elect to pull l the trigger killing the child, should be charged with murder.
I have a friend who did electrical work in the Air Force. He was taught to never touch or grab a bare wire with an open hand for the reason you state.
Methinks uncle will be moving to a new gated community.
The level of stupidity and the frequency of stupidity of some humans makes me want to become a hermit and find some remote cave to live in.
This story physically hurt. I’m serious.
Sorry bob, but this was no accident. An accident is having a deer run in front of your vehicle, a meteor hitting you in the head or a tree suddenly falling on you.
Pointing a weapon as some kids head is no accident bob.
“Pointing a weapon as some kids head is no accident bob.”
True...but by your logic, then NO CIVILIANS should be permitted to own guns, since they are too careless.
That is my point.
Yep...Sad to the bone...Trying to imagine the scene...What others witnessed...no words...

OMG billy bob....You called this an accident and then told this was not an accident ya responded with this?
I'm getting that monkey movie feeling again...It's a flipping mad house...

I guess we have to disagree. I think that accidents will happen when 80 MILLION Americans own guns, because I would HATE TO THINK that civilians are NOT INCOMPETENT to own guns, due to their inherent risk and complexity.
Because if I felt, as you do, then I cannot see how we could EVER let civilians own guns, at least without a VERY SIGNIFICANT amount of training...which basically means the same thing (i.e., no civilian ownership of firearms).
I guess we just have to disagree on this. This is an open forum and not everyone will agree on me with the right to own guns.
Pointing a gun as some innocent kids head is not an accident bob...
(I need special software that repeats my comments)
Ok, so you’re with Bloomberg regarding the capability of civilians to be responsible with guns.
I will WARN YOU that is a MINORITY VIEW on this site, but you can spout it as much as you want.

If ya try really hard, I bet you can be even more evasive and deceptive bob..
So if not an accident, why did he WANT to kill the kid? If you can give me a MOTIVE, then I will agree with you.
Today, John Boener did something that most of us NEVER thought he could do - he grew a BACKBONE, and appointed Gowdy to deal with Benghazi.
Like it or not, if we allow cars on the road, INNOCENT KIDS WILL DIE due to stupid parents - if we continue to allow knives, INNOCENT KIDS WILL DIE for various reasons (including stupid parents). And, if we continue to allow civilian ownership of guns, INNOCENT KIDS WILL DIE, also for various reasons. Again, in this case, I have not yet seen a motive for killing the kid, so if this is not an accident, then what is it?
When conservatives lose the ability to stomach the FACT that accidents will happen, killing kids among others, and ALL are preventable to various degrees, then we LOSE our right to own guns.
I simply cannot go there - yes it’s sad that the kid died, very sad, but I retain enough backbone to NOT fall into Bloomberg’s hands, because I know FULL WELL his people will exploit this to the hilt.
I understand you are expressing your opinion, and that’s fine, I don’t have any trouble with that, I’m simply saying it’s not murder.
What is it is a terrible terrible tragedy, and he’ll probably get negligent discharge causing death or something like that. The worst part is someone’s son is dead, and he has to live with it the rest of his life. Personally, I wouldn’t be able to bear that burden, I’d be volunteering to go to Africa and single handedly rescue kidnapped Christian girls. Certainty of death, and maybe do some good in the meantime is the most I’d hope to ask for.
Pointing a weapon as some kids head is no accident bob.
So if not an accident, why did he WANT to kill the kid?
He didn't. By intentionally pointing the weapon at the kids forehead something occurred which caused the weapon to discharge. He said the kid reached for it.
Regardless if the kid reached for it or he pulled the trigger unintentionally this was no accident because he intentionally pointed the weapon at the kids head.
If he would have never pointed the weapon at the kids head, showing off his laser, would the kid still be alive bob?
If I drive my can drunk and kill you and your entire family, is it just an accident bob?
