Oregon State has fired men's basketball coach Craig Robinson, the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama, according to Sports Illustrated.
Craig Robinson, who guided the team to a 93-104 record in six years, has three more years remaining on this contract and the university is expected to owe him more than $4 million. The magazine cited unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation.

Actually, this coach was rumored to be fired in 2009 but Oregon state got a piece of the stimulus bill.
I always assumed he was retained because of that but I could have been wrong on that count.
I agree with your post but the fact that Oregon athletics got a piece of the stimulus bill makes one wonder.
Agreed
Exactly. Apparently, the stimulus has now run out.
***He never made an ass out of himself. ***
A friend’s son played for him at Brown, and has reported that he totally mistreated only the white players. He was verbally and physically abusive towards them.
On Wikipedia, they call that “tough love” instead of reverse racism.
The kid quit and switched to baseball, and was much happier. He has not one good thing to say about Coach Robinson.
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me. I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed recently, so please send me your name by FReepmail if you were on the previous list.
Wouldn’t be at all surprised that’s how the obamas roll ..
Call BLM SWAT and Reid.
You may have forgotten, he was going to be fired when the Mooch and O first came into office. Mooch, I believe, made either a trip to Oregon or a phone call and suddenly his contract was extended.
Now it looks like, since the Mooch and the O are 'lame ducks', those at Oregon have found their eggs and are doing what they wanted 5 plus years ago.
And they’ve had five awful seasons as a result .good for em ..
Don Sterling should hire him to coach the Clippers.
All of his troubles would mysteriously disappear.
Yep that’s why I never cry for these guys. I could live the rest of my life like a queen on $4Mil
I’m not really ‘up’ on how coaching contracts are done, but UNM fired a football coach not that long ago, Mike Locksley (sp?) - 2.5 years ago I think. They owed him $1 million, similarly to the school in this article owing Mooch’s brother money.
Why do universities do a long contract like that? Typically the coach doesn’t stay for the full contract and they end up paying not only the old coach’s contract, but the new coach’s salary. Why is this? Why not do 2 year contracts or 3 years, something manageable?
I really don’t understand this and am hoping some smart FReeper will enlighten me.
Thanks!
Not saying you do...but that's SOP in that field.
I think Bob Stoops...the coach of OU football team is worth the money...if OU thinks he is.
Guaranteed contracts is a different thing...IMO. Not sure I'd ever give one...but that's the market in those type jobs.
Yep....$4 mil is a lot of money in many circles. I knew this girl many years ago....that said she would retire and never work again...on $2 mil...and she was like 25 yrs old. I told her she would be disappointed.
FWIW-
$4 million in tax free munies at 5% is about what $200,000 per year? I could live la vida loca on that.
I am totally convinced they are brothers.
You rock!!
Lot's of people don't think like that....
And some people $200K a year won't cover their expenses.
It's all relative to how you live, where you live...etc.
You know....some people think $80k a year is great money. Some need $80k a week...to make it. I know people that have made $110K in one day...........
FWIW-
Wish we could fire her husband.
