Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush showed courage in breaking his "read my lips: no new taxes" campaign pledge to broker a 1990 budget compromise that may have cost him re-election two years later, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation said on Sunday.

Paving the way for Jeb.
GHW Bush was Reagan’s biggest blunder. All his conservative gains were lost by involving that inept and nepotistic family.
I have a fair amount of respect for JFK the "leader".His brothers,Ted and Robert, were absolute filth as are/were most of his nieces, nephews, etc. And those utterly filthy individuals have turned the "Profiles in Courage" award into a sick Maoist sham.
I fear that Mr Bush's faculties have failed to the point that he's no longer able to understand that.
JFK reduced marginal rates.
And funny how much the like each other in private life.
There's a good boy George, now run along and let the State take it from here.
The Leftist that came up with this idea is laughing his head off.
They have a history together, see "Mena Airport."
Anytime the left “honors your courage”, you can guarantee that it really means you caved in to them.
The effect of President George H.W. Bush’s “no new taxes” betrayal has had the following effects, IMHO, of course:
* The beginning of the end of Conservative and Independent support of the Republican Party Congressional and National Leadership;
* The beginning of the end of rational thought by politicians in “both” political parties to restrict Federal spending and borrowing to fund the growth of the now dominant Federal Welfare State.
* The beginning of the end of trust of anything that a Republican Politician promises; and
* The beginning of the current cowardly, cave-in, Doormat to Democrats, Republican “Leadership” philosophy.
We read your lips George, and we now know that we were hearing the lie that continues to this day.
Thanks for your service to America in World War Two, President George H. W. Bush, but your lie about keeping a no new tax promise was your worst hour as President.
George Bush killed the Reagan Revolution.
My Dad was a top executive at a major, well respected, multinational corporation.During the 1960's the Government announced that they were closing down a large DoD facility in Massachusetts (the "Watertown Arsenal") and that the property would be for sale.My Dad went to DC to try to buy the property for the company. He often described his 2 minute long meeting with Teddy....who basically threw my Dad out of his office. He hated Teddy ever since...for his rudeness and lack of dignity, basically. My Dad heard thereafter that there was a dirty deal, involving the Kennedys, done with the politically connected people who wound up buying it.And he heard that from several very reliable sources. But then the Kennedys (most of them,at least) always *were* a bit on the shady side.
I guess one persons 'showing courage' is another person's shootin'-yerself-in-the-foot.
The only good thing that came out of it was I learned what a RINO was years before the term was even known.
Lowell Weicker got the same BS award for instituting an income tax in Connecticut which was “never going to increase and lower the state sales tax.”
Yea!Now we not only have an exorbitant income tax we also have a Sales and use tax as well as Property taxes and other hidden taxes on our internet and cell phone devices.Oh!I forgot the taxes on the electric utilities.
Connecticut just generally sucks as a state but We keep attracting more parasites here which increases our tax load.
