Two founders of the Pink Floyd rock band have called on the Rolling Stones to cancel a concert in Israel in an op-ed for news website Salon.com.
In the article, titled Why the Rolling Stones shouldnt play in Israel, Roger Waters and Nick Mason wrote: Playing Israel now is the moral equivalent of playing Sun City at the height of South African apartheid.
The aging rockers added that the Rolling Stones Israel concert comes at a critical time in the global struggle for Palestinian freedom and equal rights.
The Stones are due to perform on June 4 at Tel Avivs Hayarkon Park.
Roger Waters is a longtime backer of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign. Over the past year, he has come under criticism from several Jewish groups, including the Anti-Defamation League, which accused him of antisemitism an accusation he denies.
If anyone thinks that having a father is unimportant, just look at Roger. He's going to go to his grave with unresolved issues.
I think that the vast majority of PF fans would agree.
That’s a good point. I happen to think Roger is a complete jerk — but in fairness, the Nazis killed his father right after Roger was born, and he’s just never gotten over that. It’s very sad.
I don’t count Final Cut as true Floyd album I hear that Roger wasn’t really get long with David Gilmour to the end
OH you thinking of Rick Wright he died of cancer
I can’t listen. I heard a few seconds of that music and it gave me a headache.
Maybe it’s one of those ‘of the times’ things with the Reagan/Soviet things in the news at the time. I was never a huge Floyd fan to begin with, but back then, Final Cut, when I heard it (mid-late 80s) just clicked for me.
If I were to have heard it on release, I doubt it would have made any impact on me at all. Their early stuff I never liked at all. and The Wall was an interesting movie soundtrack. Darkside had it’s moments but is more a technical curiosity for me as a hobbyist musician since it regularly is referenced as one of the best recorded/engineered albums.
And the man comes on the radio
He’s tellin’ me more and more
About some useless information
Hey Waters!
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.
I divested my Pink Floyd recordings decades ago. They are not missed.
The lunatic has his head up his aaahhhhss.
And I thought Metallica was bad for the whole Napster thing......
