Two founders of the Pink Floyd rock band have called on the Rolling Stones to cancel a concert in Israel in an op-ed for news website Salon.com.
In the article, titled “Why the Rolling Stones shouldn’t play in Israel”, Roger Waters and Nick Mason wrote: “Playing Israel now is the moral equivalent of playing Sun City at the height of South African apartheid.”
The aging rockers added that the Rolling Stones’ Israel concert comes at “a critical time in the global struggle for Palestinian freedom and equal rights.”
The Stones are due to perform on June 4 at Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park.
Roger Waters is a longtime backer of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign. Over the past year, he has come under criticism from several Jewish groups, including the Anti-Defamation League, which accused him of antisemitism – an accusation he denies.

I used to love music by Pink Floyd. I listened to their work all the time.
Back in 2004, I went to a Roger Waters concert. I was in a large group of 10-15 people, all good friends.
In retrospect, I should have seen what was coming, but...I didn’t.
It turned into a 3 hour political audiovisual tirade against Bush, neocons, conservatives and Israel, with some music mixed in. It looked like Code Pink put together the slide and video shows they had going on.
I didn’t want to ruin the evening for the people I went with, but I was steaming mad. I grit my teeth and sat there. At the end of the “concert”, they released a 40 foot high ballon of a pig with “F*ck Bush” on one side and “Vote Democrat” on the other.
I have been unable to listen to any Pink Floyd music since then. It STILL pisses me off.

Mr Waters is, at best, foolish. There is no Apartheid in Isreal, Isreali Arabs have political rights,they vote, serve in the Knesset, on the Supreme Court, and are well represented in the civil service. Mr Waters doesn’t understand what Apartheid is. The Stones better not cancel. I grow weary of lurid stupid analogies.

They could continue to enjoy a very privileged life ... without smearing themselves and their country trying to invent and throw such rotten filth at innocent people thousands of miles away

I really never got into their shitty music. I’d rather listen to the Stones which is faster music for me.
