Rev. Nancy Ellett Allison has joyfully officiated same-sex marriages in her corner of the conservative South since 2006.

“It is just a delight to be able to help these couples celebrate their lives together and work with them to craft their vows,” said Allison, her bright voice laced with a twang.

The convoluted, contradictory, oxymoron of all time. Now it has become a "religious" right. You can't even laugh. This proves overwhelmingly what they say that liberals will never be satisfied. Every victory simply emboldens them to take on causes that are even more extreme.

Religious freedom, and its basis as a First Amendment right, is a prime issue at the center of the lawsuit, plus sheer anti-gay bias. The government has to have secular reasons for imposing laws, and can’t pick on a religious practice, said attorney Jennifer Pizer, senior counsel at gay rights organization Lambda Legal.

The trouble with their argument in invoking 'religious freedom' as a First Amendment issue is that the religious freedom as guaranteed by the Constitution applies only to traditional forms of religion.

If I belong to a religion that advocates 'child sacrifice' am I entitled to practice any such thing because preventing it violates my freedom?

Excellent point - but you will be ridiculed and poo-poohed for daring to even make the comparison.

Tribulation is upon us, and night is drawing on fast.

Too many words are wrong with this headline for it ever to be a true statement. Not ever. Never once.

Sorry bich, in your case, you'll have to sue God for that.

Although I think it's a blatant...a disgraceful...affront to God...the REAL God...I don't believe it should be *illegal* in this country for a clergyman or a religious denomination to declare two homosexuals to be married in the eyes of their "God".They're either correct or incorrect in interpreting His will in that way.

Regarding "marriage" as a *legal* concept,OTOH...for the purposes of government benefits,etc,etc,etc......I say BARBARA STREISAND!

Unfortunately for her congregation, Rev. Nancy does not understand that men and women NOT interchangeable. There are dire consequences when you go against natural law. Men and women have equal rights, but they are not interchangeable.

Maybe some day Rev. Nancy will be able to connect the dots.

They may be leaders but doubt very seriously that they are Christian leaders.

Is this Rev. Jeremiah Wrights church in a different city? It had a similar name.

It’s pretty confusing, but does she, or does not, support the right of people who DON’T want to be a party to a gay marriage? I’m talking about what is now a fairly substantial group of photographers, florists, cake makers, etc?

I’m guessing these “christians” don’t believe in John 3:16 and 1 Corinthians 6:9

There are many faux Christians leading believers astray with false doctrines.

I think that it is entirely possible that thousands of so-called ministers have seldom if ever actually cracked open a Bible.

"but it’s considered criminal for clergy to officiate religious vows between couples who have not yet obtained a valid marriage license."

If that is written in the law, sadly, the folks challenging it have a point. The state has NO BUSINESS declaring any religious ceremony illegal, if the ceremony does not affect any workings of the state government. If a homosexual couple can find a minister to say some words over them, and they consider themselves 'married', more power to them, but the state does not have to recognize that union as 'legal'.

North Carolina is going to have to think long and hard how to counter this suit, without having to dismantle the entire legislation. If they take out any language that has anything to do with what churches do on their own, they might be able to salvage their stance of no right to legal homosexual 'marriage'.

Spitting in God’s face has consequences. It is a moral duty to say so and NOT to condone calling God a liar. He created a pair that compliments one another in order to “multiply and fill the earth”. Saying or condoning anything else is an affront to God. He isn’t someone anyone should willfully tick off.

Ultimately, the only way to solve the problem is to disentangle the whole issue from the state.

How do you feel about a mother marring her son? Or how about a 60 year old man marrying a 9 year old girl? How about multiple group marriages between consenting adults? Where do you draw the line? You do not understand that with homosexual marriage there is NO marriage. At that point, marriage is meaningless.

I agree. This would also help those older folks who might want to marry in a church, but don't want their legal lives entangled. Their Social Security wouldn't be affected, nor would any tax matters.

These people are not “Christian Leaders.” They are generals in Satan’s Army.

There’s a difference between being “religious” and being a Christian. Jesus wasn’t all that religious.

They are pretending to be Christian and arguing that gays should be allowed to pretend to be married. I prefer the real world, without playing make-believe.
