Religious freedom, and its basis as a First Amendment right, is a prime issue at the center of the lawsuit, plus sheer anti-gay bias. The government has to have secular reasons for imposing laws, and cant pick on a religious practice, said attorney Jennifer Pizer, senior counsel at gay rights organization Lambda Legal.
The trouble with their argument in invoking 'religious freedom' as a First Amendment issue is that the religious freedom as guaranteed by the Constitution applies only to traditional forms of religion.
If I belong to a religion that advocates 'child sacrifice' am I entitled to practice any such thing because preventing it violates my freedom?
Excellent point - but you will be ridiculed and poo-poohed for daring to even make the comparison.
Tribulation is upon us, and night is drawing on fast.
Rev. Nancy Ellett Allison has joyfully officiated same-sex marriages
Sorry bich, in your case, you'll have to sue God for that.
Regarding "marriage" as a *legal* concept,OTOH...for the purposes of government benefits,etc,etc,etc......I say BARBARA STREISAND!
Unfortunately for her congregation, Rev. Nancy does not understand that men and women NOT interchangeable. There are dire consequences when you go against natural law. Men and women have equal rights, but they are not interchangeable.
Maybe some day Rev. Nancy will be able to connect the dots.
They may be leaders but doubt very seriously that they are Christian leaders.
I’m guessing these “christians” don’t believe in John 3:16 and 1 Corinthians 6:9
There are many faux Christians leading believers astray with false doctrines.
I think that it is entirely possible that thousands of so-called ministers have seldom if ever actually cracked open a Bible.
If that is written in the law, sadly, the folks challenging it have a point. The state has NO BUSINESS declaring any religious ceremony illegal, if the ceremony does not affect any workings of the state government. If a homosexual couple can find a minister to say some words over them, and they consider themselves 'married', more power to them, but the state does not have to recognize that union as 'legal'.
North Carolina is going to have to think long and hard how to counter this suit, without having to dismantle the entire legislation. If they take out any language that has anything to do with what churches do on their own, they might be able to salvage their stance of no right to legal homosexual 'marriage'.
These people are not “Christian Leaders.” They are generals in Satan’s Army.
There’s a difference between being “religious” and being a Christian. Jesus wasn’t all that religious.
They are pretending to be Christian and arguing that gays should be allowed to pretend to be married. I prefer the real world, without playing make-believe.
NO, but we love them. We pray that Christ turns their hearts around so that instead of condemning people to Hell, by not sharing with them the Truth of the Gospel-that Jesus can save from this destructive life, we pray that they would be saved and “come to the knowledge of the truth”!
