Former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel has surged into a virtual tie for first in the GOP Senate primary a month after receiving the endorsement of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who seems to have helped her gain support from suburban women.
According to the Augusta Chronicle, a new Insider Advantage poll shows establishment candidate David Perdue with 22%; Handel with 21%; Rep. Jack Kingston with 17%; Rep. Paul Broun with 14%; Rep. Phil Gingrey with 12%; and 11% are undecided before the May 20 primary. The poll was conducted April 27-29, and the margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points.
Insider Advantage's Matt Towery said Kingston has been losing metro-Atlanta female support with his folksy TV ads for weeks" and Handel has been "picking up significant female support and is starting to leave both David Perdue and Jack Kingston substantially behind with women."
He also said the "other candidates show little if any movement" and "if Handel were to spend any degree of significant money on broadcast TV ads in the final two weeks, her momentum could take her to first place, leaving Perdue and Kingston battling for a spot in the runoff."
Perdue has been under fire after he mocked Handel and said she was not qualified to serve in Congress because she lacked a college degree, even though only 27.8 percent of Georgians over 25 have college degrees. The vast majority of Georgians, including Georgia's Lieutenant Governor and Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, have just high school diplomas like Handel. Perdue apologized a week after the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released a video of his remarks, but Georgia state Senator Josh McKoon was not buying the "apology," saying it reeked of "political expediency."

About ten articles in the last week saying “Palin is powerless!”, “she’s got no influence!”
This is awesome news!! The Establishment’s plan in Georgia was to shut out conservatives by getting Perdue and Kingston the top two slots in a runoff. Win-win for them. I hope Karen keeps up the momentum before the 20th!
Suburban women, I want them on our side.
This is good.
GA USSEN GOP (Insider Adv): David Perdue 22%, Karen Handel 21%, Jack Kingston 17%, Paul Broun 14%, Phil Gingrey 12%, Others 3%.
This is what she can do most effectively. Running again herself will be counterproductive IMHO.
David Perdue with 22%;
Karen Handel with 21%;
Rep. Jack Kingston with 17%;
Rep. Paul Broun with 14%;
Rep. Phil Gingrey with 12%

These are all are good folks.
Perdue is my least favorite of the lot.
Early on, I was leaning towards Broun.
But, I am a political realist.
I will be working out of town on primary day.
So I will be going to “early-vote” on Saturday for Karen Handel.
...and Sarah cares about our country. She is selfless and puts winning back our Constitutional right before her own glory.
GO SARAH GO!! GO SARAH GO!!

Either Handel or Broun would be a win for us in the Senate. I also supported Broun but would proudly support Handel if she’s the one that goes forward.
Like I said, I am a political realist.
Karen will take the wind out of the sails of Nunn’s daughter
as far as the female vote is concerned.
(Disclaimer: Sam is a very distant relative of mine...)
I’ve said it before...Palin is the new king maker replacing the useless, clueless Rove.
Think of her as Moses but much better looking.
Very wise thinking. Dunn is a big name in GA.
I have news for you the establishments plan is working perfectly. The conservative candidate is Paul Broun. Well Handel will be a little better than Saxby because he is a closet Democrat and as stupid as a dog but she will vote with the leadership on all major issues. I don’t know Purdue but he’s probably about the same.
That must mean you’re related to Carl Vinson ?
You mean “Nunn.” Whatever “bigness” it might’ve had was long ago. It’s been 24 years since Sam’s last race, and he quit in 1996 because he was concerned he’d lose to a Republican (Guy Millner).
Perdue is the worst, the most left-wing of the “R” candidates trying to capitalize on his cousin’s name (the ex-Governor), for whom some probably think they’re voting for. He makes Saxby look like Larry McDonald.
Karen Handel?? Dear, Lord. Sarah Palin went all “woman-first” and a bunch of y’all just nod your heads, ask no questions, and pull the lever. Jesus, help us.
Actually, to tell you the truth,
I am related to Carl Vinson through his Vinson lineage;
and to Carl Nunn through his Wheeler lineage;
and to Rosalynn Carter through her Smith lineage.
If your family has been in Georgia since colonial days,
you end up being related to just about everybody.
“Perdue is the worst”
That’s what I figured. My best friend is thinking about voting for him because she went to some luncheon where most of the candidates were speaking. I told her the bad thing is that Perdue can say anything because he has no voting record to look at. Handel and Broun and the rest do.
I’m voting for Paul Broun in the primary. I’ll prolly vote for Handel in the runoff.
Eric Erickson from Redstate is friends with Handel and Brounl He says his heart is with Broun but his head is with Handel as he is afraid Broun can’t win. Even Erickson could not bring himself to say more about Handel than she is a good person and will be better than Saxby.
Carl Nunn = Sam Nunn
