Former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel has surged into a virtual tie for first in the GOP Senate primary a month after receiving the endorsement of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who seems to have helped her gain support from suburban women.
According to the Augusta Chronicle, a new Insider Advantage poll shows establishment candidate David Perdue with 22%; Handel with 21%; Rep. Jack Kingston with 17%; Rep. Paul Broun with 14%; Rep. Phil Gingrey with 12%; and 11% are undecided before the May 20 primary. The poll was conducted April 27-29, and the margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points.
Insider Advantage's Matt Towery said Kingston has been losing metro-Atlanta female support with his folksy TV ads for weeks" and Handel has been "picking up significant female support and is starting to leave both David Perdue and Jack Kingston substantially behind with women."
He also said the "other candidates show little if any movement" and "if Handel were to spend any degree of significant money on broadcast TV ads in the final two weeks, her momentum could take her to first place, leaving Perdue and Kingston battling for a spot in the runoff."
Perdue has been under fire after he mocked Handel and said she was not qualified to serve in Congress because she lacked a college degree, even though only 27.8 percent of Georgians over 25 have college degrees. The vast majority of Georgians, including Georgia's Lieutenant Governor and Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, have just high school diplomas like Handel. Perdue apologized a week after the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released a video of his remarks, but Georgia state Senator Josh McKoon was not buying the "apology," saying it reeked of "political expediency."

Heh...
You DARE to speak a not laudatory word about Sarah Palin? You DARE to question her infallibility??
(I like your style.)
It’s a tough call. I actually like a lesser candidate, a Black minister named Derrick Grayson. http://www.grayson2014.com/
He’d be the type to make the leftists’ heads explode, since we know how much they REALLY despise Black people who’ve gotten off the plantation.
It may end up your having to vote for Handel for the first primary in order to stop the worst case scenario of Perdue vs. Kingston, a RINO orgyfest. Of course, at least you have some choices. Across the border here in Tennessee, we can’t seem to depose Lamar!, and we have the added problems of an underfunded Tea Party challenger (Joe Carr), open primaries (Dems love to help the GOP select their most liberal nominee) and no runoffs. It’s a total fiasco.
I predict Kingston fades by the 20th. Gingrey is such a tool. Paul Broun was running an ad tonight. It was pretty good.
My sister asked me if I knew about Grayson the other day but I had not heard about him.
It’s too bad each state doesn’t have a pre-primary convention to weed out the left and establishment phonies and then forward them on for a vote (that’s how Utah got Mike Lee). With such a system, we’d be rid of Lamar! in Tennessee and only Broun, Grayson and Handel would be on the ballot in GA.
I can live with Handel if Broun doesn’t win but that’s largely due to the fact that I believe we are beyond the ballot box so its not going to matter anyway.
Very true.
I’m originally from MN where famous names vote from the grave.
They never truly die
It’s unfortunate we’ve reached that point, but the bipartisan big gubmint national Combine has gone a long way into making that a reality.
Pretty much that’s where we are at. We will restore the Constitutional Republic it just won’t be done by the 535 elected legislators in DC.
I agree.
Like Michael Grimm, Vance McAllister, Ron Johnson and these other businessmen with no records.
Doctors and veterinarians are often good.
Rightwing lawyers like Cruz or Lee.
Especially on immigration. If you are Secretary of State. You have to deal with illegals voting. You know the demographics of hispanics voting Democrat. Jan Brewer as bad as she is now, was SoS in her state. Kobach is king of being SoS.
I’d even back Gingrey against him. Gingrey is good on immigration and an ally of Steve King.
I thought Joe Carr had 600,000.
Yes, it is.
The embarrassing Paul Broun, once a front-runner, has now been relegated to the rear. Saxby Chambliss' seat just might be competitive again. I had written this one off as a GOP loss.
Even if Carr could match Lamar! dollar for dollar, the problem of the open primary and no runoff remains.
Wow what a race! not much distance between 5 candidates.
It's an extremely easy call if you ask me. Broun, a creationist with ties to the Paul movement, would be at serious risk a losing the GE to spawn of Nunn, so HELL no to him, I don't care what his fan club thinks about him being "the most conservative".
Grayson has a zero% chance of finishing in the top 2, so no to him, unfortunately he would be a wasted vote. I agree with you that Perdue is the least conservative, worse than the national GOPE favorite, Kingston.
Handel is the clear choice. Palin did us a big favor endorsing her, and Joni Ernst in Iowa. Despite what one poster on this thread thinks about Palin choosing to endorse women, they happen to be the best choices in these cases.
Too bad. I know Mrs. Palin endorses her but she is wrong in this one. This woman has a shady history, is part of the old boys net work, and really has nothing to offer conservatives. She won’t be able to beat Michelle Nunn because she hasn’t got the brain power that God gives rocks
Nunn’s chances of winning against a Republican nominee here are highly overrated. Handel has won statewide, Nunn hasn’t won squat.
And any Republican nominee will be able to use the line “Do we really need another community organizer in Washington?”
