Heroin and Alcohol Led to the Deaths of Ex-SEALs
NY Times ^ | 4/30/14 | nicholas Kulish

The authorities in the Seychelles said Tuesday that they had determined that a combination of heroin and alcohol was responsible for the deaths of two former members of the Navy SEALs working as guards on board a container ship in February. The two, Jeffrey Reynolds and Mark Kennedy, in their 40s, were found dead in a cabin aboard the Maersk Alabama, the cargo ship that became famous in 2009 after Somali pirates attacked it and took the captain hostage. After autopsies determined the men had died of respiratory failure and possible heart attacks, officials in the Seychelles, a small Indian Ocean nation, requested further analysis of stomach contents and blood samples in Mauritius. Those tests “revealed no trace of any poison, thus ruling out foul play,” the police in the Seychelles said Tuesday. A local pathologist then concluded that Mr. Reynolds’s and Mr. Kennedy’s heart failures “had been as a result of a combination of heroin and alcohol consumption,” ......Investigators found pills, syringes and a brown powder that later proved to be heroin in the cabin. The Seychelles, an archipelago about 1,000 miles east of Kenya, has one of the world’s highest rates of injectable drug use, according to the United Nations. The earlier attack on the Maersk Alabama, which became the basis of the Oscar-nominated film “Captain Phillips,” was one of several high-profile episodes that led shipping companies to place armed security guards like Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Kennedy on their vessels. The two former SEAL members worked for the Trident Group, a maritime security company in Virginia Beach. The company president said that contractors were required to submit to extensive drug screening every two years and that both men had passed their tests within the last 18 months.

What gets me is that no one really believes it except for a very tiny minority of dim bulbs, though there are no doubt many who pretend to believe it consciously and unconsciously. It's like voter ID -- everybody knows it's all and only about vote fraud; those who are against voter ID are for protecting vote fraud, everyone KNOWS this, though many won't admit it.

It's the same thing here. PUHLEEEEEEEEZE, how gullible do they think Americans are? Anyone with common sense and a bit of life experience knows that chances of two former Navy SEALS, among the most disciplined and focused personality types anywhere, becoming so nuts with heroin and booze that they kill themselves on the same day while in real life, that combination of drugs is abused to that extent pretty much only by lifelong self-abusers with severe moral ailments and bad physical health and they hang on for decades, in and out of clinics and hospitals.

Puh leeeeze. This is not just a lie, it's a BLATANT one. And as you say, an insult to SEALS. I'll bet you that on the ground, maybe three in ten Americans buy it; the rest of them know it's BS. Note that there are no comments with the story. If there were, I'll bet the majority would be folks as skeptical as we are.

the two hookers paid to search them out at the bar. Get em drunk, screw em, boys snooze off as boys tend to do, in come the pimps/operators to pump them full of “not a poison” heroin. The pills are the anomoly - of the sleeping type, I wonder?

It’s not a coincidence if they both were dosing off the same bag of drugs and overdosed. That’s a direct cause and effect situation.

Drug abuse among SEALS is not unknown. To believe otherwise is folly.

To what purpose? Just because they were Americans?

It's very simple.

Clearly a group of highly trained Somali mujahideen ninjas parachuted onto the vessel, and used their super strength to hold two Navy SEALs down and simultaneously inject them with heroin and pour alcohol into their stomachs.

Then they escaped without detection, and refused to take credit for their kills.

Just using Occam's Razor.

After all, what are the chances of extremely bored combat veterans drinking heavily, experimenting with opiates and accidentally overdosing?

That could never happen - no wounded veteran has ever gotten hooked on painkillers in the history of the US armed forces.

And then the pimps picked them up and carried them onto the containership with no one noticing and placed them inside their cabins.

Good point.

That happens all the time.

Meh, that’s the nature of conspiracy theories. For people who believe in them, they are completely immune to being “debunked”. If there is no evidence for their theory, then it’s due to a coverup. If there is contradictory evidence disproving their theory, then it was planted as disinformation.

If you say something didn’t actually happen the way that the theory says, then they will demand you prove it with evidence, but they won’t accept any evidence you offer. They won’t offer any evidence of their own contentions in return, either.

If this is real or not, there are numerous red flags.

If it is real, since when are Navy Seals, even former Navy Seals, going around injecting heroin. Does anybody question why heroin is suddenly killing people everywhere. In case you haven’t noticed, Google heroin and endless stories of overdose come up.

The town of Burlington, VT had 8 overdoses in 1 day yesterday. Opium related overdoses have surpassed car, accidents, becoming the NUMBER 1 cause of death in this country. I never saw this crap growing up in Miami.

You would never know because the media silence is defeaning. This is Obama’s America, and Americans are clueless.

What were they doing in Seychelles islands “known for rampant injectable heroin use”? (A recent phenomenon by the way) Africa has recently become a major distributor in the emerging heroin trade.

Who did the autopsy? Do the toxicologists have names? Are the bodies going to be returned to the US? Why did the medical report state alcohol, but not heroin, found in system? Most 3rd world countries aren’t known for their forensic medical skills. I cant imagine Mauritus being any better. Why wouldn’t they have been sent back to the US immediately?

Anyway you look at it it’s strange, just more proof to me that we have become a narco nation.

“I don’t know the entire circumstances but my guess is that the son was involved in drugs in order to control the pain from the back injury he sustained.”

It’s not uncommon for vets with injuries to have struggles with drug dependency. People might not like to hear or acknowledge that, but it is a fact.

"If it is real, since when are Navy Seals, even former Navy Seals, going around injecting heroin."

I don't know about these guys in particular, but plenty of vets who sustained injuries have problems with opiates, after being prescribed them as pain medication. Heroin is just another opiate to someone with a dependency.

"Does anybody question why heroin is suddenly killing people everywhere. In case you haven’t noticed, Google heroin and endless stories of overdose come up."

There is no mystery about it. Heroin has always been potentially lethal, but recently many drug dealers have been lacing their "heroin" with even more powerful prescription opiates. It happens frequently that when one of those batches hits the street, there is a wave of overdoses, as people are accustomed to a lower potency product. It's not a small difference we are talking about here; some of these prescription opiates are thousands of times stronger than heroin.

Really? Just who would hold them down and inject the drugs into them? I can’t imagine anyone doing that. (That is assuming they actually died of overdoses.)

Are you kidding me? This happens all the time in the US, and it's Africa we are talking about. PD: 5 arrested for abusing, injecting AZ woman with heroin Christopher Herschberg PHOENIX (CBS5) - Phoenix police have arrested five people who allegedly restrained a woman, injected her with heroin and abused her on July 4. The victim told police that Chris Herschberg and Marissa Nickolls used force to restrain her, and John Koether injected her with heroin against her will, according to police reports. Authorities said Nickolls used force to restrain the victim and threatened the victim's family when she said she'd call the police. http://www.kpho.com/story/19022722/pd-5-arrested-for-abusing-injecting-az-woman-with-heroin

Opiate usage is a very common problem for veterans.

Does anybody question why heroin is suddenly killing people everywhere

There have been waves of heroin overdoses before and there will be more again.

It is a recurring phenomenon.

What were they doing in Seychelles islands

Since they were guarding an Indian Ocean containership, I would guess that they were docked there for fueling or maintenance? Like hundreds of containerships do every year?

Who did the autopsy?

If it was a Maersk vessel, it would likely be a qualified examiner. This is not a fly by night company.

Are the bodies going to be returned to the US?

They will be returned to the next of kin. That's standard maritime practice.

Why did the medical report state alcohol, but not heroin, found in system?

The body processes different substances at different rates.

Why wouldn’t they have been sent back to the US immediately?

Why would they, exactly?

I have heard of pimps forcefully injecting women with heroin to get them addicted to drugs and force them into prostitution. But I find it hard believe that two former SEALs could be simultaneously held down and injected with no signs of violence.

Agreed. But it fits the sad meme being fed to the LIVs, so they are out of the equation. Smacks of more lies.

My youngest brother was career Air Force. He worked undercover with OAS to stop drug shipments on military aircraft from Germany to the US. Mostly heroin.

The problem now isn’t the fact that heroin is potential lethal. The problem is that we suddenly have a vast supply of high potency heroin that is cheaper than a pack of cigarrettes. Cities are claiming to have heroin addiction epidemics and the DEA is nowhere. Instead Holder’s ATF was giving arsenal of weapons to the Mexican cartels.

Chicago has a major problem with violence and seems to be the major source of heroin distribution in the Midwest and CNN is promising to proclaim his greatness.

My family is from South America, I promise you that this government is compromised, bought and paid for by the MULTI BILLION DOLLAR drug trade.

The Muslim Brotherhood has networks throuout South America, central america, and Mexico. Chavez turned Venezuela into the biggest drug distributor in the world using his his army personnel and planes, and The Fed sees no evil. Chavez has close ties with Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The government that can record every conversation and keystroke, doesn’t know what is going on?

I am not even remotely knowledgeable about drugs and their administration. I cannot see anyone holding those two down and forcing them to take heroin.

On the other hand every person has two weaknesses. They have to eat and drink and very few of us can completely control the chain of handling. It is a weak point that has been used since antiquity.

SEALS are naturally people who like to live on the edge. The 40+ year old body isn’t as good as that as the 20 something body. Especially not if said body has been living on the edge that long.
