The NSA has lost the trust of the American people as a result of the Edward Snowden leaks, and needs to be more transparent to gain it back, the NSA's new director said Wednesday in his first public comments since taking control of the embattled spy agency.

"I tell the [NSA] workforce out there as the new guy, let’s be honest with each other, the nation has lost a measure of trust in us," Admiral Michael Rogers told a conference of the Women in Aerospace conference in Crystal City, Va....

Rogers didn't lay complete responsibility at the doorstep of the NSA: He blamed public mistrust on the way the newsmedia had framed the issues raised in the Snowden revelations.

"From my perspective the debate and the dialogue to date have been very uneven," he said....

How many warrantless wiretaps did you need to figure that out, Sherlock?

Duh.

The NSA monitored Americans more than the Enemy;
and egregiously let the ENEMY kill in Boston
and elsewhere, over and over.

Transparency is BS. It is passive and does nothing.
Reduce the size by 50% and rename it.
State what it may do and NOT do.
Give it no enforcement power.

The ONLY legitimate intelligence service is military intelligence.

The CIA should be gone.

The military should have its own intelligence sections.

They should report up to SecDef.

NOT directly to el Presidente.

Otherwise, the way things have ALWAYS been with CIA, we have an organization that is run amok.

CIA, to put it simply, has unfettered capability to create wars and revolutions.

It has NO accountability, ZERO oversight, because NO ONE can EVER get an honest answer from them about what they have going on.

It’s impossible because no one has independent access to anything inside CIA, everyone has to go through CIA to ask for internal CIA information, which allows CIA to filter what it provides access to.

Combine that with the fact that the leadership has always been hand-picked minions of elite finance, and you have corruption on the largest scale ever. The CIA is simply a tool for elite finance, masquerading as a legitimate agency.

I think the entire Federal government has lost the trust of the American people. It simply exists to exist; it consumes our money, produces nothing, and represses anyone who dares point this out.

The ONLY legitimate intelligence service is military intelligence. The CIA should be gone.

Let's go a step further. The Department of State should become a much smaller agency within the Department of Defense. Perhaps one Ambassador per country (some nations have an ambassador represent them in more than one country), just enough staff to handle visas and related issues, and enough armed military personnel to secure the embassies and consulates.

If we're going to have an embassy or consulate in a place like Libya or Venezuela, there better be enough military stationed there to successfully launch a coup on a hostile government if attacked. Preferably, we have no diplomatic presence in regimes that are hostile to us. They're our enemies. Let them deal with our military if they decide to pick a fight.

The civil service aspect needs to be gone. If there isn't military experience, they should be disqualified from working for the State Department.

Let's also require every damn Ambassador to (a) have at least a B-2 proficiency in the language spoken in the country and (b) have extensive on-the-ground experience in that country before becoming ambassador.

The Ivy League sh#theads that infest the State Department work around the clock to undermine U.S. national security interests, spurning our allies, and performing Lewinskys on our enemies. It's time for that to end.

I agree with your fantastic solution, but it is fantastic.

Government will not lay off its own, only contractors. It is not in the business of going out of business. It is entrenched. Only incredible, almost unspeakable violence will change this.

Don't blame the messenger, blame the game. You lost the trust because of what you did, Snowden only helped people learn about it. And, if you really want to fix it, start getting rid of these programs, and get the hell off of Americans without a warrant.
Also, I'd like to know what part of your job description isn't already covered by the FBI (internal), CIA (external), as well as military intel/Secret Service.

Add the spying that private companies are doing on us to the mix. After a while its easy to get cynical about their real motives.

hmmm....let’s see, he’s going to blame the news media, when they in fact are likely the ones in possession of all the other juicy tidbits Snowden took which have not been released yet?

And this guy was deemed smart enough to be confirmed for the job?
