Just announced on the Weather Channel
Another just south of Tuscalosa
Three supercells being watched...
I’ve been surprised over the last decade by the fact that “mountains” don’t preclude Big Time tornado damage.
The Blue Ridge provides some degree of protection on the east coast from tornadic weather in the Ohio Valley. Look at the forecast maps for the ongoing storms through Wednesday. The areas with a higher likelihood are split right at the southwestern tip of NC where the higher mountains begin. So, the belief is not entirely without merit. What’s without merit is somehow believing that anyplace is completely “safe” from ever having a tornado. There have been tornadoes in the Blue Ridge, one particularly tragic one at Rye Cove, Virginia. But, they’re far less common to the point of being unusual, whereas east and west it’s typical late spring weather to get tornado warnings.
To pass north of downtown; heading for Brookside then Gardendale, potentially EF-3
That's the Truth that I've seen.
The Bomb Shelters built in the 50's and early 60's on private property are still valuable.
The Tuscalosa storm is the bigger storm, moving east of the city along I-20. Brookwood in direct sights.
The Tuscalosa storm, if it holds together, is heading for Birmingham downtown in about an hour. Just issued another warning for Birmingham for the Tuscalosa cell. The earlier one passed to the north of Gardendale.
Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams are both spending the night in Birmingham to get ready for morning live shots in the Meridian/Tupelo MS area. They may not have to go as far in the morning.
Mrs. Doomonyou just contacted family in Birmingham, They are in the basement. Also more family in Gardendale,
Tornado on the ground in Bessemer. Debris ball on radar.
Bessemer is just southwest of downtown Birmingham and heavily populated.

Watching WVTM online. Looks like the tornado is inbound on Birmingham. Possibility of multiple vortices, big and dangerous. God have mercy.
Bessemer tornado 1/4 to 3/4 miles wide.
