Former Illinois State Rep. Keith Farnham was charged today with possession of child pornography more than a month after he abruptly resigned after federal agents raided his home and state office.
The federal charges alleged that Farnham, 66, of Elgin, possessed two videos depicting child pornography on a computer that was seized from his state office in Elgin in March. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in downtown Chicago on Wednesday.
When he resigned his seat on March 19, Farnham told the Tribune he was stepping down due to serious health concerns. A Navy veteran who ran a painting business in Elgin before running for office in 2009, Farnham said he is receiving treatment for bladder cancer and also struggles with pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that causes lung tissue to scar.
Federal agents executed a search warrant at Farnham's office and residence in Elgin on March 13. Several computers and electronic storage devices were recovered that contained child pornography images, including the two charged videos, according to the complaint unsealed today.
The office computer that contained the videos was labeled "PROPERTY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES."

Beware reading the actual complaint it is quite graphic.
The original story largely omits mention of Farnham's political party.
Adding a (D) to the original title nearly gave me a heart attack.
Serious MENTAL health concerns, since kiddie porn users are mentally ill...
Serious health concerns. Yea Prison food is not that healthy. Wait OJ seems to do well!
The photo caption does ID him as a RAT, though.
I know some crimes were equal, but there was no crime that we prosecuted more vigorously than child pornography. Put them away forever.
LOL!! I hear ya.
Friggin’ dems.
Can’t be trusted with guns and kids, yet run the ATF and education areas of government.
Hopefully, not for much longer.
If he had been a Republican it would have been in the headline and first paragraph...
If he had been a Republican it would have been in the headline and first, second, fourth, seventh, eight, eleventh, thirteenth and fourteenth paragraphs...
...and that’s just on the first day of coverage...
Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. Whatever two consenting adults do to a minor in the privacy of their own secret garage studio is good for business. Everybody lies about sex, especially when it’s with kids. I’m sure they would have mentioned his party affiliation if it had been relevant to do so, but he wasn’t a Repuublican, so it wasn’t.
What are the odds this POS does any time? My guess he won’t spend a day in jail.
The elite ALWAYS protect themselves.

According to a criminal complaint, homeland security agents were investigating information received from its Cyber Crimes Center that an email address was being used to trade child pornography on the Internet.

I agree with you that child porn is vile and unacceptable.
From the mere glimpses we are getting of fedgov internet chicanery though, I would not rule out planted evidence or traffic on selected targets. They would be facing felonies and an absolute lack of empathy or support, even from immediate family members.
I am not saying anything for or against this particular defendant without more facts.
Too true. Thank you for reminding us.
Again - not everything pertaining to Chicago is Breaking News.
This would definitely be a larger cause for concern.
LOL - you’re right null...
In fairness, the story was posted within forty minutes of the Chicago Tribune posting it and the newspaper classified it as “breaking news.” Chicago is the third largest media market in America.
What precisely is your definition of “breaking news?” I wager if the criminal suspect had been a Republican elected official that the national media would be all over the story. Need I add that Representative Farnham (D) also supported redefining marriage to include same sex partners?
This legislation passed with two votes to spare.
Maybe to avoid such labeling issues in future, Free Republic moderators could review and classify the news items submitted. I am not trying to be petty. I seriously do not understand what your definitional standards are.
Take a look at the Breaking News sidebar.
