During the battle to defund Obamacare last fall, we all warned that the schism within the party was about more than strategy; it was about the future of Obamacare itself.
At the time, our opponents within the party mocked our effort to defund Obamacare as a folly and even asserted that our strategy was distracting from the problems with Obamacare itself and would weaken our ability to repeal it. They promised that as long as we hold tight and wait until Republicans win back control of the Senate, we could repeal Obamacare.
We responded by noting that once the dependency of Obamacare would take effect, the law would be immutable. Even though the coverage offered by Obamacare would be subpar and eventually collapse the healthcare system, for the time being that is the only coverage many people would have, especially those who were thrown off their insurance plans. We also pointed out that the first time Republicans would have full control of government would not be until 2017, at which point the law would never be repealed.
Nonetheless, they fought us every step of the way and publicly lambasted conservatives in the halls of Congress. Obviously, Democrats had nothing to fear, as they knew the majority of Republicans had no intention of holding their ground and would even tear down their own base in order to do Harry Reid’s bidding.
Fast-forward just a half a year and Republicans are now admitting they lied to us. They never had any intention to fight for full repeal of Obamacare. Now that the defund fight is behind us, they are admitting that they cannot repeal it.

We must stop avoiding the sad facts. Obama is not dangerous because he’s outed as a Marxist. The hidden enemy is more dangerous. We cannot win this war until we acknowledge once and for all tha the Republican Party is not a conservative alternative. Repeal Obamacare? Hell’s bells! That’s just where we need to start!
I can't think of a single reason to vote GOP anymore. Not one.
One of the many reasons I’ll never vote for another republican. I’ll more than likely stay home. None of them can be trusted. If they take the senate we’ll get more of the same.

So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. I just don’t see the point in taking an hour out of my day to write in the mouse. Worse, participation in a process without meaningful choices lends unmerited legitimacy to the process.
In the old soviet union, elections were held. There was only one choice on the ballot, but elections were still held.
The point is that when you see some backwoods lib gain votes from one election to the next, it gains credibility.
When there are enough ‘protest votes’ showing up in the numbers, it is something that can be pointed to in your argument.
Look, I don’t honestly/literally believe this mess is fixable. I genuinely believe that we are headed for a Fallout 3/Road Warrior scenario that nothing by the book can ever stop since most people on the left AND the right are cowards, drooling morons and at best, indifferent to reality. But I am going to do what I can until the day that society collapses.
I think you’re confusing means with ends a bit. I couldn’t care less which politician is left holding the scepter and wearing the robes so long as my natural rights are respected, and there is minimal intrusion into my life.
I’m coming to the conclusion that whether what I find important is attained is less a function of the whatever “leader” is elected or selected, and more a function of the leadership’s perception of the populace at large. Or said another way, the political class doesn’t worry about elections; they control those. What they tend to worry about is large groups of unruly people showing up and spoiling their fun. And perceptions tend to matter more than reality. So why waste time and resources showing up for some game of “electoral 3 card monte” when you can show up and do something effective?

I’m by nature an optimist. I see a better future as a possibility if not a likelihood as there are plenty of other like minded people out there. The key is in the organization and co-location of those like minded individuals. And there are already folks acting on some very good ideas.
