During the battle to defund Obamacare last fall, we all warned that the schism within the party was about more than strategy; it was about the future of Obamacare itself.
At the time, our opponents within the party mocked our effort to defund Obamacare as a folly and even asserted that our strategy was distracting from the problems with Obamacare itself and would weaken our ability to repeal it. They promised that as long as we hold tight and wait until Republicans win back control of the Senate, we could repeal Obamacare.
We responded by noting that once the dependency of Obamacare would take effect, the law would be immutable. Even though the coverage offered by Obamacare would be subpar and eventually collapse the healthcare system, for the time being that is the only coverage many people would have, especially those who were thrown off their insurance plans. We also pointed out that the first time Republicans would have full control of government would not be until 2017, at which point the law would never be repealed.
Nonetheless, they fought us every step of the way and publicly lambasted conservatives in the halls of Congress. Obviously, Democrats had nothing to fear, as they knew the majority of Republicans had no intention of holding their ground and would even tear down their own base in order to do Harry Reids bidding.
Fast-forward just a half a year and Republicans are now admitting they lied to us. They never had any intention to fight for full repeal of Obamacare. Now that the defund fight is behind us, they are admitting that they cannot repeal it.

B..b..but the uniparty wouldn’t LIE to us. Would they?
Unless, of course, we have been misled on this as well.
Get to the polls and elect more lesser evil folks! No matter what! Just like so many Freepers demanded we do!
Well of course they lied. I and others said they were from the get go.
“Get to the polls and elect more lesser evil folks!”
Cthulhu in 2016. Don’t vote for a lesser evil!
“Folks, the fix is in”
That about sums it up.
Expecting the uniparty to not lie is sort of like expecting a tick to not suck blood, or a nymphomaniac to remain chaste.
Yup. People want evil? Get the real thing.
New tagline. Thanks!
It took me a while to get here, but I agree with you. We need to make sure, if we can’t beat their money and appeal to low information Republicans, the base has to stay home in November. Sending the lesser of two evils back to Washington is doing far more harm to the country than the Democrats can do on their own.
They have to pass the law before We The People can find out what's in it. And once we do, even if it is a train wreck of a law, it's too late for us to ever do anything about it.
No. Make your vote count for SOMEONE. Vote for someone you believe in even if you have to do a write in. Never just stay home. Pick a name that is not a RINO out of the air if you have to. Just not a RINO.
Preferably pick someone who benefits in the next election by the number of votes in this one.
“Sending the lesser of two evils back to Washington is doing far more harm to the country than the Democrats can do on their own.”
The uniparty controls which parties get ballot status, which candidates get on the ballot, who may run, and who may or may not vote. And when all the ballots are cast, the uniparty gets to count them and announce the winner.
What could ever go wrong?
If you don’t vote for Cthulhu, you help Satan win.
I will vote for politicians who will shrink the size and influence of the federal government. Not grow it different or better or leave it the same. Shrink the government, reduce their take, slash their influence in every sphere of the lives of the citizens.
I'll vote for politicians who can convince me that this is what they mean to do. I expect zero Democrats and a small percentage of Republicans to meet that challenge. So I'll be looking at other candidates.
“Make your vote count for SOMEONE.”
Sorry Norm, I don’t agree. While I haven’t completely given up on the franchise I’m being a whole lot more circumspect in when I participate.
There must be a clear, positive (conservative) choice on the ballot. If not, then there are myriad other things I have to do with my time.
Anyone who thinks there was ever a chance to defund Obamacare should explain where the votes to override Obama’s veto would come from.
Then write in Mickey Mouse as a slap in the face to the fact that no one is worth your vote. I get what you say and I do not disagree. I just see no point to sitting it out and leaving the movement open to the talking point.
If it be the mouse, so be it.
