Usually, after charges of police brutality, police officials take their time reacting while they follow procedure to determine who did what. But this episode in Knoxville, Tenn., was so extreme and well-documented that the local sheriff fired the officer immediately.
Frank Phillips, a Knox County Sheriffs officer, was fired Sunday night after a series of pictures taken by photographer John Messner were published in the Daily Mail in Britain. They showed an officer identified by the Sheriffs Office as Phillips grabbing 21-year-old college student Jarod Dotson around the neck and squeezing him until he fell to his knees.

There. Fixed it for them.
Reminds me of Matt’s books. He’s the type of guy that gets hired on by some federal agency to do dirty work.
one wonders what would be happening right now if the victim had been black or a member of Occupy Wall Street
So you’re one of those, huh?
Defiant Knox sheriff to stack illegal immigrants 'like cordwood' in jail Knoxville News-Sentinel ^ | August 21, 2013 | News Sentinel staff Posted on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 12:22:16 PM by Jim Hill KNOXVILLE Knox County Sheriff Jimmy J.J. Jones on Wednesday denounced an inept administration that has declined his proposal to train local officers on enforcing federal immigration laws. An inept administration is clearing the way for law breaking illegal immigrants to continue to thrive in our community and ultimately be allowed to reside in the United States. I will continue to enforce these federal immigration violations with or without the help of U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Jones said. If need be, I will stack these violators like cordwood in the Knox County Jail until the appropriate federal agency responds. (Excerpt)
Not to worry. If such an event doesn't just happen to occur, the Democrats will create one they can use to rally their base before the November election.
So the officer was correct to choke out someone who wasn’t resisting?
Reading reports of the “Block Party” and things on Twitter make it sound like this party thing got way out of hand. Of course sounded like the students were bragging about it..
Sheriff sounds honest and decisive.
yep.
See my post #21.
In general, I support cops. They've got a cruddy job to do, dealing with the worst kind of people, at their very worst. I doubt that I could do it - could I treat a drug-addicted repeat child molester in a crack house with the same professionalism as I'd treat a generally law-abiding citizen at a routine traffic stop? I doubt it, and I especially think that I'd have a hard time keeping each incident isolated, particularly as I worked the job for a time and obtained a dim view of people in general.
I'd be curious to see where the hiring line is. How do you find someone who's aggressive enough to be a solid policeman - taking all of the risks associated with the job - but also one who can control their temper and be a voice of reason in what are nearly always high-stress situations? And, how did the uniformed clown in the video circumvent that process and get hired?
I think that those are the questions to be asked. Just my $0.02.
Try him for assault and battery. Then lock is ass up with Bubba.
Prisoners HATE cops. He won’t last long.
And that makes it okay to choke out a cooperating person?
“...other two officers are on admin leave...”
Not good enough.
They were standing RIGHT THERE, watching their pig partner choke this kid out.
They need to lose their jobs, now. Turn in the badge, the gun and you no longer get to work in ANY LEO capacity where you have potential life and death decisions over ANYONE.
The pig thug outweighs the kid, is much larger than the kid, and the kid handcuffed.
If that kid had an asthma condition, or some other breathing disorder, and he died, that would be murder. The fact that this buttwipe just walked up and choked him out... while HANDCUFFED...
For the record, I don’t use the word “Pig” lightly for cops; by and large, they’re doing their jobs, oftentimes hazardous.
But this man IS a pig, and he needs to go to jail for attempted murder at worst, aggravated assault and battery at the least.
In a better world, with better people, this POS would be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
I am just commenting on the “block party”
Absolutely right! There has been too many incidents where “good cops” have stayed behind the blue wall. They should have arrested him right there. We should meditate on why we accept things the way they are.
“...probably forgot that he always was...”
Nope. He’s “LAW ENFORCEMENT!!!! (damnit!) and you WILL comply (or be choked out on the street while handcuffed.
I see for some reason my post at #33 pulled.
Guy is caught on film, choking out a college kid... I’m outraged by it. One wonders how many other choke-outs he’s gotten away with that WEREN’T filmed... and his Blue Brothers said and did nothing. He appears to know very well what he was doing, and just how to do it.
I still remember when we used to call cops “Peace Officers”. And they referred to themselves that way too.
