2 LIVING POPES TO HONOR 2 DEAD ONES: THE CEREMONY

VATICAN CITY (AP) -- In a historic match-up of papacies past and present, Pope Francis and emeritus Pope Benedict XVI will honor Popes John XXIII and John Paul II in the first ever canonization of two popes. For such a momentous occasion, the ceremony is actually quite short and surprisingly straightforward, with the added benefit that the relics of the two new saints will be presented for universal veneration by the church for the first time. Here are five things to look for - though beware, the rite is celebrated mostly in Latin, the official language of the Catholic Church.

That looks just like that stuff Jesus turned the tables over and drove the merchants out of the Temple over. Same stuff.

Difference: The area that Jesus was in was the Jewish Temple. Those pictures look like it is on the streets of Rome.

The principle is the same. The Scriptures said “My Temple will be a House of Prayer” but you have turned it into a den of thieves.

That is going a bit of a stretch though with scripture.

This cannonization ceremony live on EWTN right now is an enormous embarrassment. It’s like a New Age ceremony, with horrible music, no dignity at all, primarily Hispanic speakers and singers, lousy speeches, and is an absolute travesty, along with being exceedingly boring.

One more example of the total lack of dignity of this new Pope. He fits right in with most of the rest of the socialistic world though. The PC Pope. Pope John Paul II must be rolling around in his grave in horror. I don’t believe where this Pope is taking the Catholic Church. Right down a social justice, liberation theology rathole. And Pope John Paul II, the great fighter against Communism. What a contradiction in terms. BRING BACK POPE BENEDICT!!!

Yeah. I remember how the gospels describe the little statuettes they were selling. Yeah. It’s right here in my Bible. Let’s see. Yeah. It’s right here...somewhere. Hmmm. Gimme a minute. I know it’s here somewhere.

Be sure and use the King James version. That's the one Jesus and the Disciples used. I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Oops, that was probably the one at the cathedral in LA. I don’t think they’ve had the one in Rome yet.

Yes, you are right. My mistake. On EWTN the title they gave the program was the canonization of the two popes. Through me off. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I figured out it wasn’t part of the actual services which comes later today. Thank goodness it was a separate event. It was still ghastly though.

I am now up, really early, to watch what I consider a BEAUTIFUL holy mass to honor to SAINTS, SAINTS who were, IMHO, SAINTS in my eyes way, way, before it was made OFFICAL as of today. Today we do NEED a much more patorial Pope and have one now.

As far as Pope Benedict XVI Emertius is concerned, LET HIM REST, he DID NOT TO BE Pope, he put his years in, but he was simply TOO OLD to continue. Let him REST, he has EARNED IT.

Actually, Christ drove the money changers from the Temple, who were using the Temple grounds for profit.

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." —Matthew 21:12–13

You had to exchange the Roman money for "Temple" money because the Roman money had images on it the face. But what the merchants then did was take a profit in the exchange of Temple coin for Roman coins - a very profitable business. The Temple priests got a "cut" for this. Moreover, animals were sold for sacrifices on the Temple grounds. For the very poor, they could only afford doves as sacrifice (Joseph and Mary did this as recorded in the Scriptures, so they must have been a poor family). The better off could afford lambs and the like - but these had to be inspected by the priests. There was another side scam business going on, where the priests would get a cut on the money by favoring some merchants and only saying certain animals met the standard for the sacrifice of sins.

Naturally, all of this enraged the Son of Man, and He cleaned house, literally, and cleansed the Temple before He became the Passover lamb that was sacrificed.

But even the Jews were not so pagan as to sell outright idols and statues in the Temple.

These (and more) are for sale today in Vatican Square, and right in the streets adjacent to it:

"Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols." Acts 17:16

What else did Paul say about idols?

"Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." Acts 17: 29-31

In fact, in Acts 19 Paul caused a riot in Ephesus because he opposed idol manufactures and upset their profitable business:

"About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way. 24 For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen. 25 These he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth. 26 And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods. 27 And there is danger not only that this trade of ours may come into disrepute but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.” 28 When they heard this they were enraged and were crying out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29 So the city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed together into the theater, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians who were Paul's companions in travel. 30 But when Paul wished to go in among the crowd, the disciples would not let him. 31 And even some of the Asiarchs,[e] who were friends of his, sent to him and were urging him not to venture into the theater. 32 Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together. 33 Some of the crowd prompted Alexander, whom the Jews had put forward. And Alexander, motioning with his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd. 34 But when they recognized that he was a Jew, for about two hours they all cried out with one voice, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 35 And when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, who is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Artemis, and of the sacred stone that fell from the sky?[f] 36 Seeing then that these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rash. 37 For you have brought these men here who are neither sacrilegious nor blasphemers of our goddess. 38 If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. 39 But if you seek anything further,[g] it shall be settled in the regular assembly. 40 For we really are in danger of being charged with rioting today, since there is no cause that we can give to justify this commotion.” 41 And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.
