A national organization is launching a three-year, $8.5 million campaign to promote LGBT equality and push for new legal protections in three Southern states dominated by conservative politics and religion and known for resistance to change: Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Decades after groups used boycotts, marches, sit-ins, pickets and mass rallies to end legalized racial segregation and push for equal protection for blacks, the Washington-based Human Rights Campaign is planning a new kind of civil rights movement. Its one based on using chats and front-porch visits between relatives and friends to foster an environment more welcoming toward people of all sexual orientations.
The idea is simple, and its borne out in polls: People are less likely to oppose expanded rights and acceptance if they know and care for someone whos gay. Activists hope thats particularly true in a region that values hospitality.

She ain't a "wife".
Her wife. And everybody in that small town (pop 3500) has no complaints.
This is Southern Alabama! Opp Alabama if you want to google it.
You lose Lower Alabama and you have lost the war.
But, my personal observation is that they rarely look like Carrie Underwood or Kate Beckinsale...
Well I believe this particular Social war is lost
But you can carry on soldier.
Good luck in your fight.
This isn’t going to go well...
I think you’re being an alarmist.
I think the lesbians will be welcomed with open arms. The poofters? I think with good grace, manners, and tolerance.
Now, when it comes to the Bi’s? Who can say when one doesn’t know who to trust?
The transgenders? This is the thorny one. Not so much for the guys (hell, we just go around the side of the barn) but the gals. What does a girl do when she finds herself weeing next a very confused male dressed in girlie undergarments?
Interesting to speculate.
Sad
Want to see a southern city overrun w/ lesbians? Asheville, NC.
IMO, this is the funniest sketch ever on Top Gear.
They travel through Alabama w/ gay slogans painted on their cars.
‘Good ol’ boys’ chase them out of town.
Hilarious.

The Southern Baptist Convention is the entity being targeted with the $8.5 million campaign. If the homosexuals cannot force the SBC to bend the knee to them, then the homosexuals will drain SBC coffers.
In the South as a whole, numbers for and against gay marriage aren't that far apart, but try buying airtime in Miami or Houston or Atlanta or Charlotte or Washington DC.
Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas are strongly in the anti camp, but at least the advocacy groups know where their money is going.
Plus, it may not be about affecting election results but about softening up public opposition in anticipation of future court rulings on the matter.
Should be interesting. Here in the Bible Belt, most people are well grounded in the Scriptures and are well aware that the sin of homosexuality is condemned along with the sins of bestiality and incest, with no verse separating the three. Per God, they’re all equally repugnant.
If people believe that homosexuality if fine, then logic would conclude that incest and bestiality are OK as well.
It is not our place to punish these mentally ill people. We would be fine with averting our eyes, but they insist we notice and approve their deviant behavior. That will never happen, no matter how many phony “marriages” they claim to have in the South.
Please see my post @50. It is the Southern Baptist Convention the homosexuals are really after.
It always cracks me up when I see Arkansas listed in the Deep South column. If AR is going along with PC garbage we’re Upper-South, but if we aren’t suiting the lefties we’re Deep-South.
Two lezbo women together does not make a wife. Do you understand?
We need to start our own campaigns to frame it as to exactly the behavior these people are doing, rather than about “rights” to do said behavior.
Honest, frank descriptions.
It sounds like they think they can pull off another media invasion and get the troops to come enforce gaydom like they enforced desegregation 60 years ago. People in the South have learned lots about the media in the 60 years. These LGBT folks might want to ask the existing gay communities in the south if they are here because they are a vanguard or they suffer less actual discrimination in the south than they do in libtard heaven. This scheme is hair brained enough to be a plan of our first Gay President.
Wasn’t there a group that tried this before? Soulforce, I think was the name.
Let’s stop using their language. It is not the synonym for happy; it’s homosexual.
If I don’t know you, you’d best be thinking twice about a front-porch visit with me.
Not that I’m antisocial... I’ve invested sweat, blood, tears and money into this paid off place and I reckon I have the right to pick the visitors.
Buncha queers trying to ram their lifestyle down my throat is not on my list. Period.
