‘It’s Not a Dare, It’s a Promise’: Gov. Rick Perry Warns Feds Over Concerns of New Land Grab in Texas

Texas Gov. Rick Perry warned the federal Bureau of Land Management to stay away from Texas amid new concerns that it may be looking to claim thousands of acres of land in the northern part of the state.
Not only does the federal government already own “too much land,” Perry told Fox News, the feds are “out of control.”
“At issue are thousands of acres of land on the Texas side of the Red River, along the border between Texas and Oklahoma. Officials recently have raised concern that the BLM might be looking at claiming 90,000 acres of land as part of the public domain,” the Fox News report states.
However, any potential action would reportedly be years away as the federal government is only in the preliminary review phase. Further, the BLM claims it is “not expanding Federal holdings along the Red River.”
The statement refers to a 1986 federal court case in which Texas landowner Tommy Henderson lost 140 acres to the BLM. Now he claims the agency is using that court decision as precedent to claim more land.
“It’s not a dare, it’s a promise that we’re going to stand up for private property rights in the state of Texas,” Perry said.
Texas Attorney Greg Abbott, who is hoping to replace Perry as governor, sent a letter to the BLM on Tuesday urging the feds to “stay out of Texas.” Perry said he stands with his attorney general when it comes to Texans’ property rights.
According to Fox News, BLM said it is merely in the ‘initial stages of developing options for management of public lands,’ as part of a ‘transparent process with several opportunities for public input.’”
Texas Gov. Rick Perry joined his state’s top attorney on Wednesday in blasting the federal Bureau of Land Management over concerns that it may be looking at laying claim to thousands of acres of property in northern Texas.
“The federal government already owns too much land,” Perry told Fox News.
At issue are thousands of acres of land on the Texas side of the Red River, along the border between Texas and Oklahoma. Officials recently have raised concern that the BLM might be looking at claiming 90,000 acres of land as part of the public domain.
On Tuesday, state Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is running to replace Perry, raised the issue in a letter to the BLM director. He also told Breitbart.com he’s ready to “go to the Red River and raise a ‘Come and Take It’ flag to tell the feds to stay out of Texas.”
Abbott reiterated his comments Wednesday night on "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
"At a minimum, (the federal government is) overreaching, trying to grab land that belongs to Texans, or worse, they are violating due process rights by just claiming that this land suddenly belongs to the federal government, swiping it away from our Texans," said Abbott, who threatened court action. "This is just the latest symptom of what seems to be a federal government run amok that is messing in states’ rights and now messing in private property rights."

Here’s what I don’t understand. If the BLM is laying claim to that land, then it must mean that the BLM already “owns” the land north of the river, and it isn’t part of Oklahoma.
I mean they’re not just saying that, poof, the border changed, and since it can’t possibly mean more real estate for Oklahoma, it’s our job to lay claim to it. Are they?
Tommy Henderson lost 140 acres to the BLM.
Has he got it back, if not, BLM has already taken land.
I can only imagine what my ancestor Thomas Miller, Gonzales, Texas would have to say about this...
If that’s the case, I will volunteer to show up with a backhoe and re-re-route the river to it’s original course.
that’s what I was thinking, why not just build a system of levies or something similar to keep the river from wondering south.

Started in the late 90’s as more police agencies got better investigators and lab assets. To stay up with the trend of investigative police work becoming more thought than brawn the old style tough cowboy type was usurped by city boys and females (diversity you know). There are still a few in the ranks of the old make up, very few.
I remember a while back it was noted that only a handful of the active Rangers had even been on an actual horse compared to most if not all before the 70’s - 80’s.
Texas is one State that will kick BLM ars, take their guns and escort across the border. They they will give King Obama a real headache. This is one State that can be self sustaining and not miss Washington at all.

They're right, they're not 'expanding' because they claim to already own it.
