Up in Arms: Georgia Governor To Sign Controversial Gun Bill Wednesday

ATLANTA – Its official name is the “Safe Carry Protection Act.”

But critics are calling it the “Guns Everywhere Bill.”

At noon Wednesday, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is scheduled to sign the sweeping legislation into law. One of the most permissive state gun laws in the nation, it will allow licensed owners to carry firearms into more public places than at any time in the past century, including churches, bars and government buildings that don't have security checkpoints.

The law also authorizes school districts to appoint staffers to carry firearms. It allows churches to "opt-in" if they want to allow weapons. Bars could already “opt-in” to allow weapons, but under the new law they must opt out if they want to bar weapons. Permit-holders who accidentally bring a gun to an airport security checkpoint will now be allowed to pick up their weapon and leave with no criminal penalty. (At Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, a record 111 guns were found at TSA screening areas last year.)

Americans for Responsible Solutions, the group co-founded by former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords, has called the legislation “the most extreme gun bill in America,” and mounted an aggressive campaign against it. So have other gun-control organizations, including Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the group started by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.....

We won. Take that, NBC "News".

And by the way--other states have had for years what the GA governor just signed. The media is just mad because their side is losing.

It really bothers me that the phrase “allow licensed owners” is emphasized.

I’ll know that the “pro-2A” legislators are serious when they introduce and pass Constitutional Carry laws.

Somehow, someway, We the People have got to figure out how to remove the artificial requirement that guns and people need to be “licensed.”

YOU NAILED IT! Post of the century!!!!!! If they wanna pervert and bastardize the 1st Amendment with their cherry-picked propaganda and biased aspersions, then let them stand by their words or face real-time consequences!!!!! Make the alphabet networks get the fear of The Almighty in them - fly the straight and narrow, or lose your FCC charters!! Just like that George Bush bullshit about his National Guard service - make some corporate elite heads roll along with Dan Blather's, who has become a virtual nothingburger since CBS made them their sacrificial lamb! Let them wonder if hearsay and anecdotal smears are worth their cushy jobs, employability, and possible criminal records. I love it!

I think conservatives should all band together and buy out one of the 3 networks. It would scare the hell out of the other 2!

They hide behind the first, but want to obliviate the second.

Also, you often hear conservative commentators described as “right-wing attack dogs”, etc. Ever heard of a “LEFT-wing attack dog”? ;)

I see you subscribe to the Chinese Curse Theory of world affairs re: “interesting times.” I’d extend that to observe that it appears Santayana was prescient.

It would be nice if Georgia gun owners started open carrying regularly. Seeing handguns everywhere would take away the shock of seeing them only occasionally and would alert the bad guys that we mean business.

“I think conservatives should all band together and buy out one of the 3 networks. It would scare the hell out of the other 2!”

The old media will not sell to conservatives.

The New York Times has turned down several offers, even though they are losing money.

Back in the day, I asked an NRA exec, why don’t we buy ads to educate the public on TV.

He said “They won’t sell to us.”
