Businessman Curt Clawson won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Florida's 19th district Tuesday, a giant step toward becoming a member of Congress in the heavily conservative district. Clawson, who loaned his campaign nearly $2.7 million of his own money through early April, defeated three other candidates in a special primary election: State Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto, businessman Michael Dreikorn and former state representative Paige Kreegel.

Is he really a conservative? That’s all that is important.
Clearly a Republican warring on wymyn. After all, he bet two of them.
even if he is, we take our chances once they get to DC
(cough) Marco Rubio (cough) John McCain (cough) Jerry Ford (cough)
I suspect that Benacquisto might have been better, and more electable in the general election. But Clawson had more money.
Well, let’s hope he works out.
As long as it was above board, I’m sure those ladies had no problem with it. That’s politics.
Benacquisto’S husband had links to the dems:
Paige Kreegel is a man, there was only 1 woman in the GOP race. It’s the south, there are men named Lindsay and Paige and Courtney. If you see a name like that running for office in the south, assume it’s a man.
I think that BOTH Curt Clawson and Lizbeth Benacquisto are probably pretty strongly conservative and seem to have the strength to maintain that integrity in going to DC. So, as far as I’m concerned, we would have won with either of them. My personal preference was Benacquisto but that was basically only because Sarah Palin endorsed her as one of her “Mama Grizzleys”.
I’m chalking this one up as a Tea Party win and a “NO” vote for Boehner or Cantor.
Curt Clawson was endorsed by Rand Paul and the Tea Party express. He’s solid on all of his conservative views.
Lizbeth Benaquisto supports common core, so that rules her out to me. Paige Kreegal doesn’t support repealing obamacare, only amending it. Plus the way the three other candidates held a surprise press conference without inviting clawson, just so they could bash him, reeked of politics at it’s worst.
Anyway, I voted for clawson today.
So do many other Republican candidate’s spouses. What of it? Did you know that first lady Betty Ford was pro-abortion? That Republican operative Mary Matlin’s husband is James “Ragin’ Cajun” Carville? And on and on...
The fact that Benacquisto let an oily cronytard like Clawson get away with calling himself an “outsider” was central to her defeat. That and Mack’s endorsement of Clawson.
President Paul and vp Huckaby will save this nation.
Clawson didn’t even have to buy the election, when most locals heard Lizbeth speak,it was an automatic turn off.Lets just say she talks, she sounds like a “S.D.B.”.
My concern here is that Clawson may be another McAllister.
I hope you’re joking.
The seat is safe so we don’t have to worry about the general election but I was for Benacquisto as well.
Clawson is one of those guys who says “Politicians suck vote for me, I’m not one, well not until now! I’m TEA PARTY, because I say so! My opponent is a RINO, because she dares to oppose me!”. He has nothing to back up his talk.
Benacquisto was endorsed by Palin, Clawson was endorsed by Connie Mack IV, the RINO who used to hold this seat.
He may be fine though, who knows.
Winning the special gives Clawson a huge leg up in the primary for the full term.
