Democrats reluctant to embrace President Barack Obama's much-maligned health care overhaul in this year's congressional elections may be having second thoughts now that enrollment in the program is higher than expected and cost estimates are lower.
"I think Democrats have the ability to steal the health care issue back from Republicans," health care industry consultant Bob Laszewski said. "The Democratic Party can become the party of fixing Obamacare." The Congressional Budget Office said the new law will cost taxpayers $100 billion less than previously estimated.
Republicans already were pushing their luck by vowing to "repeal and replace" the health care law without having a viable replacement in mind. Now, Democrats have even more reasons to rise from their defensive crouch on this topic.
Pro-Democratic activists in Alaska are doing just that, and a number of strategists elsewhere hope it will spread.
The independent group Put Alaska First is airing a TV ad that praises Democratic Sen. Mark Begich for helping people obtain insurance even if they have "pre-existing conditions," such as cancer. The ad doesn't mention Obama or his health care law by name, but it focuses on one of the law's most popular features.
Other Democrats should consider such tactics, political consultant David DiMartino said.
"There is still time to tell the story of Obamacare to voters," he said. Democratic candidates don't want to be defined entirely by the health law, he said, "but now they can point to its successes to fend off the inevitable distortions."
Republican strategists don't agree.
The recent upbeat reports might help Democrats temporarily, but "the negative opinion of Americans toward Obamacare is baked in," Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak said. "If Obamacare was truly trending positively," he said, "Sebelius would have stayed."

“The Democratic Party can become the party of fixing Obamacare.”
So they ADMIT 0bamacare is busted.
Go ahead Dems, double down with nothing but junk.
“There is still time to tell the story of Obamacare to voters”
“If you like your insurance you can keep it.
If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”
The story has been told. All lies.
Stalinists lie. ALWAYS
It took dyed in the wool Commies like Pete Seeger over 40 years to admit that Uncle Joe Stalin had done some bad things.
There can be no honest debate on Obamacare while Democrat shills are unwilling to concede that they are lying about how awesome it is.
Leftists are inculcated early to fight their enemy. GOPers would rather smile be part of the "get-along gang."
I don't know if it's as much street-wisdom as an unabashed willingness to lie. Repubs tend to find lying distasteful. Dems not so much.
They should be admitting that Obamacare is a bust and running on single-payer.

For 0bamacare we destroyed healthcare in America for the other 99.6%?
Conservatives: We are the 99%!
They are outsmarting themselves this will not work. I hope they think it will though...
Obamacare is a utter disaster and a mess that is only being partially camouflaged by delays, lies, and subterfuge. Enrollment is not that high, nor are payments being made. Health costs are skyrocketing and the worst is yet to come.
For the first time, I saw an ad on TV which was for Obamacare, although it was never specifically mentioned. The ad repeated the word “Free” about 20 times and spoke about your “entitlement”.
It's early in the game and Democrats can still fool people into thinking that Obamacare is going to be free to them. They have delayed enough to offset the costs to many, but the day of reckoning is coming. We'll see if Democrats can keep floating their lies.
In the meantime, if Republicans flinch and recoil from Obamacare they will hand over to Democrats one of their most potent weapons.
The Dems should “defend” it. They own it. Its their baby.
We Bulldozed your house , but don’t worry we will fix it
Politics is war to the left. If the current GOPe thought the left was going to sit there and watch their bloodbath in the fall, they were sadly mistaken.
The GOP will be lucky to a have a respectable showing by the time November rolls around.
Repubs tend to find lying distasteful.

OMG.... You’re kidding; right? Apparently you’ve never heard of some Republicans named John Boehner, John McCain, Eric Cantor, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell and hundreds of others in D.C.
Even the RINOs can’t screw this up. But we still need to take the presidency. Unless we nominate Cruz, I’m not confident.
the Democrack slogan for the Mid Terms
EMBRACE THE SUCK!!
That is my thinking. That they ought to make it a huge campaign issue this year, go ahead and tout how wonderful it is and how everyone had “crappy” insurance before now. They might even want to throw in that the premiums will be even higher next year, so people can get excited about having such wonderful coverage and health care now.

Dems are good at telling stories.
