Conservatives slammed the campaign to effectively end the Electoral Colleges role in presidential elections, saying that the National Popular Vote Compact circumvents the Constitution, saying it resembled President Barack Obamas abuse of the law through his extensive use of executive orders. [ ]
Under the National Popular Vote Compact, each state would award its electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote. The effort has been quietly winding its way through state governments, needing 270 votes to take effect.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Question: New Jersey’s on the list. NJ has a Republican governor, Christie..and by the terms of thje state constitution, he’s considered to be the most powerful governor in the nation. So why doesn’t he reverse it..
NPV is horrible, and constitutional.
With NPV and a couple of Scotus appointments, the rats won't have to worry about suspending elections in order to remain in power. They won't even have to shutdown debate, intimidate conservatives into silence, or sic the IRS, and FBI on their enemies.
Thanks in part to no opposition from the GOP, our descent into police state hell is happening within the limits of our Frankenstein Constitution, and is perfectly legal.
What I don't understand is the trust so many Freepers have in the GOP wing of the Uniparty. If the GOP can't share in power, they will happily settle for wealth. In fact, they probably prefer it that way.
The language in the article posted is too soft. It’s not an end run, it’s not a circumvention, it’s flat out breach and the GOP better start working on prior restraint, and Congress ought to warn the states that the election will be decertified in an event such an attempt happens.
My guess is they want to get this in place before Obama’s final term ends so that when the Constitutional Crises manifests itself he’ll take action on the side he supports. We know what side that will be.
It’s going to make a great debate question during the election cycle, just start putting the questions to candidates. Will you or will you not support such a breach?
After that, there is nothing to stop the offended states from seceding, except military action. I.E another Civil War.
The proper model for the EV would be to apportion the vote by the congressional district popular vote.
Since the EV is enumerated by the number of congress critters and senators, it makes sense to cast a vote for each congressional district, based on the popular vote in that district. And, then cast the two that represent the senators based on the popular of the State.
Anything else flies in the face of logic and a level playing field. As it stands, today, Ohio (for example) goes the way of Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, and (too lesser extent) Dayton and Toledo. The big three, though, actually sway the vote for the entire state. A quick look at the vote map for the 2012 vote is quite telling. With an apportioned EV, we would not have this a$$clown in the white hut, today.
The end result of this idiocy is that a state like California could have 60% of its voters elect a Democrat, yet the state's Electoral Votes would be cast for a Republican.
Let them see how that works for them.
Latet anguis in herba.
Just wait until a democrat DOESN’T win a popular vote...
If implemented it will move voter fraud to the national level. If California is a solid Democrat state and manufactures an extra 5 million votes, then under the electoral college it makes no difference. Under this alternative model it will affect the national total and make it harder for the Republican to take the office that he won.
Article I § 10: "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, ... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State..."
Got this message this morning from COS:
“Alaska has passed HJR22 “The Convention of States Project Resolution” with no Amendments by a vote of 12 Yea and 8 Nay.
The moment this passes, we need to report a 16 million vote advantage out of Wyoming for the next Republican presidential candidate. Since the left tells us vote fraud is a non-issue, this shouldn’t be difficult.
The electoral college was a smart addition by the founders, but didn’t go far enough. I would favor a system that diluted the influence of cities - as they generally dilute out the representation of those not living in a major city. In a tangible way, the voters of the great urban areas dictate the type of government the rest of us live under.
The Elector Hunt Begins [Election 2000]
"One battle-tested Democratic consultant has even begun a quiet intelligence-gathering operation that could aid a last-ditch Gore strategy in the Electoral College. Bob Beckel, who managed Walter Mondale's 1984 Democratic presidential campaign and has close ties to [Warren] Christopher, has been checking into the background of Republican electors, with an eye toward persuading a handful of them to vote for Mr. Gore. If Mr. Bush eventually prevails in Florida but wins none other of the most closely contested states, he would have 271 electoral votes. Three GOP defections could make Mr. Gore president . . . The Gore camp itself has disavowed any intention of seeking to sway GOP electors."
Even Slate published stories about it. At least it made it that far into the MSM.
Yeah, that’s just it....if the NPV produces a result they don’t like, one state or another will say, no we won’t appoint electors this way, we’ll send it back to the state legislature. Florida’s legislature almost took this route in 2000; several states did in 1876.
The moment this passes, we need to report a 16 million vote advantage out of Wyoming for the next Republican presidential candidate.

That’ll almost balance out Filth-Adelphia ... We need reforms to stop cheating... 1.) photo voter id’s 2.) a national voter registration to stop dual voting (ie. FL and NY/NJ/CT) 3.) refuse to accept any EC votes from states that do not purge illegal aliens from their roster. 4.) institute tighter controls on phone/mail/internet voting and have a single 24 hour voting day on a weekend starting at midnight Friday (eastern) 5.) local voting officials chosen in a way to diminish cheating as we have seen where rats control 100% of the process.
California’s adoption of this is the nail in the coffin of the manufactured majority of the Demagogic Party. This will literally cut their throats vis a vis the POTUS, because the overall nationwide turnout will rise due to better turnout by Pubbies in California, and for that matter, in NY (Cuomo just signed it).
