History is witness to a time past when the Islamic civilization produced globally unparallelled architecture, literature, science, philosophy, theological discourse, and cultural influences influences so strong it made European nobles want to dress like Muslims. Critics of Islam and Muslims scoff at this romanticism, asserting that Muslims have not produced anything great since the Middle Ages and most likely will never again. The inherent bigotry and even fallacy of that argument aside, for those critics I have to say, look out, a new Muslim renaissance is upon us.
In the midst of growing anti-Muslim sentiment in the US since 9/11, or perhaps thanks to it, this generation of Muslims is abandoning the traditional professions expected from immigrant parents (doctors, engineers, business people) and entering fields we all once thought were closed to us. The last decade has seen a steady and sure emergence of American Muslims as artists, writers, performers, activists, media personalities and intellectuals (on a global scale Muslims rank as top intellectuals). Inside the DC beltway you see evidence of this shift as well. Young American Muslims are working in national security, public diplomacy, foreign policy, politics we have our share of hacks and wonks now too.

The denial you made is not borne up by reality.
The photo depicts a global meeting place, a congregation of world businesses, come together to produce economic synergy. The trade is enormous and involves not only the Gulf but the trade eastward
Those Arab middle-eastern achievements listed were for the most part pre-Islam weren’t they?
Ain’t that the truth...you know whether you’re out walking in a pasture, or even perusing the news, you gotta watch out carefully lest you step in a freshly squeezed cow pie (like this article).
And how much of that has western know how and labor doing it? These so called projects are oil production which not only came from the west but is sustained and furthered by western engineers and builders
Business does not equate to a renaissance. Your confusing money with values and culture.
Islam is an ideology disguised as a religion and a cancer on the earth.
mostly you
No, your post is in error.
There is growth and immigration from the east into the Gulf
Calling that a renaissance is misleading, especially when they are paying foreigners to build these buildings (and the rest of their infrastructure). Let’s see what Dubai looks like 50 years after the oil wells run dry.
I don’t know for sure. Those assessments cited are all pretty much subjective, open to interpretation (and some outright lying in my opinion).
A culture that some purport to be so advanced does not devolve into a forth world crap hole of existence unless there was some dire influence. My assertion is that if this happened, and there was an advanced civilization that had all that is claimed, it certainly wasn’t ISLAM that advanced it. In my book, if anything was done, ISLAM destroyed it to pre-medieval status, maybe even before that.
Whoever wrote this should be shot.
Tell me...how many churches and synagogues are there? Tell me how many women are allowed to walk around with out escorts who must be family members? tell me how many are muslim and believe that it is wonderful to have jihad and subjugate the infidel???
Your idea of a renaissance is very strange indeed
That is not really relevant...... the projects are there. It can not be rationalized away.
I am one of the westerners of which you speak. We in America hire some of the same western folks to design and build what we need in the same manner as in the Gulf. It is also noteworthy that easterners from the Pacific rim are also heavily involved in the progress as well.
forth =fourth....frigging text replace....
It is there but you have made up your mind and just will not look
Here is what will happen:
1 - When they oil in the middle east eventually runs out (and it will)
2 - The middle class and poor of the country will rise up and demand that the rich pay more in taxes to support the level of services they have become accustomed to which have to that point been paid for with oil revenue.
3 - The rich will then flee in mass and take their money with them.
4 - The economy will crumble and the infrastructure that maintains these cities will deteriorate.
5 - civil/religious wars will break out and these shinning cities will crumble back into the desert or be destroyed in the ensuing carnage.
6 - 10’s of millions will die in the ensuing chaos.
7 - some future telethon will encourage our children to give to the poor and needy of Saudi Arabia.
nuke Mecca , ban islam
This article is realityphobic.
You seem to be hung up on big projects. I repeat, a Renaissance is more than big building projects.
Circle the Chirstian churches put a box around the Jewish synagogue. You are delusional if you think that these flourish anywhere in the muslim world.
You claim it is there....prove it. You won’t because you can’t. Apparently you like to ignore what is going on in muslim countries through out the middle east to Christians and Jews.
So my question is...why do you take this stance? Are you that fond of Islam that you cannot see what it really is?
Sounds like a delusion
There are actually two Muslims who won Nobel Prizes in science.
There are ninety eight Jews won won Nobels in science.
A ratio of 48:1 says all that needs to be said about Islam and intellectual capability.
PS I only counted Jewish Nobel winners in physics and medicine, and I didn’t include Jews winning Nobels in chemistry - but I did include the one Muslim who won a Chemistry Nobel.
PPS Gotta make Muslims look good - Bammy sez so. ;-(
