Officials from nine Western states met in Salt Lake City on Friday to discuss taking control of federal lands within their borders on the heels of a standoff between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management.
The lawmakers and county commissioners discussed ways to wresting oil-, timber- and mineral-rich lands away from the feds. --snip--
"What's happened in Nevada is really just a symptom of a much larger problem," Lockhart said, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Legislative Summit on the Transfer of Public Lands, as it was called, was organized by Utah state Rep. Ken Ivory and Montana state Sen. Jennifer Fielder. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, addressed the group over lunch, the Tribune reported.

God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty . . . And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."
Do a search on just one agency and get blown away. I entered "BLM abuse" and the house lights dimmed as all the hits were pulled up.
Amen. With you on this lock, stock and barrel.
BTTT!
It looks like some of the states with a large portion of their territory run by the Feds are starting to wake up and be heard.
That land is likely collateral on our $17T debt.
If the land on both sides of the Red River at the state line division of Oklahoma and Texas, causes the feds to try to steal that land soon, the feds are going to face many more citizen's/Texas Rangers/Texas State Militia weapons than they faced in Nevada. Our state would be Ted Cruz/Davy Crockett/Sam Houston on mega steroids. Can't you see Barry/Hussein/Obama on his bicycle being surrounded by Cruz/Crockett/Houston? He would - - - pants.
wow ping.
Case in point: The GAO in 2004 (latest I could find) reported that the BLM spent $57-million to collect $17-million in grazing fees.
As in the old joke, they lose money on every transaction but make it up in volume.
A complete, detailed breakdown of their expenditures by grazing allotment (and the overhead allocated) would be fun to peruse.
I'd like to see a 30 year history of all BLM land sales and purchases in Clark County.
"Buffer Zones - Highly Regulated Use"
LOL! I’d call that a problem too!
Buuuuump!
Perhaps you did not catch the sarcasm. “Simply done” and “Constitutional Amendment” are rarely used in the same sentence.
“Why would we in Nevada want the Chinese to own 80+% of our state, with all the gold, silver, copper and rare earth minerals under ground?”
1: The chineses have the money to buy it from the Feds.
2: once the Chinese(Or anyone other than Washington) own it, the State of Nevada will start taxing & governing over it.
It doesn’t really matter who own the title as long as its not Washington all owners are the same in being subject to Nevada law & taxes.
Let the Chinese buy and develop the land if they got the money. They will have to be employing Nevadian to do the work and Nevada gets payed the same either way.
You need to remember in Nevada China is just a private owner with no more rights or authority than anyone else.
“They would put up fences denying any access and destroy the ground and send our riches to China.”
Somehow I don’t think the State of Nevada will find that behavior lawful.
“I believe it should be under State control with no payment not used to pay off federal debt to foreign nations”
Your smoking weed if you think the east is going to give up the land for nothing, and that would be unfair seeing as the federal land in every eastern state was sold with money going to the U.S. treasury. Why should Nevada expect anything different?
No, your goals must be the equal property to buy the land as Eastern States had to buy up and uses their own land.
I don't see a lot of Americans working in Chinese restaurants.
What if they put up wall to wall high-rise condos and bring in a 30 million Chinese nationals?
