The GOP has been hijacked. Thats right, hijacked. Over the past 100 years, an elite progressive minority has taken the Republican Party far afield from its conservative platform and the interests and values of its grassroots conservative base.
Ill admit that, in the aftermath of the disappointments of the 2012 elections, conservatives like me are angry.
We are angry at being blamed for Mitt Romneys defeat, when we argued from the beginning that he was a Big Government establishment politician and that if he ran a content-free campaign, he would lose.
We are angry at the disrespect shown to limited-government constitutional conservatives who were delegates to the 2012 Republican National Convention. We are angrier still when members of Congress, whom we elected, and who want to use the democratic process to push policies based on conservative principles, are told to get their ass in line by Speaker of the House John Boehner, and to go along with the Republican Party leaderships betrayal of conservative principlesor else.
Its time for conservatives to channel that anger. Its time to take our party back.

I largely agree with what the author has scribed. Although much older than me by about 21 years, I think both he and I would be considered conservative dinosaurs, disregarded by an elitist Republican party that values that mythical ‘conservative Hispanic vote’ (i.e., AMNESTY) more than plain old traditional values of family and decency and real patriotism for the America that our founders created.
That said, I find it suspiciously odd that POLITICO would give this piece publicity. I am left with the feeling that the left is more intent on creating and maintaining internal strife in the Republican Party than it is concerned about its liberal readers even perusing this piece and getting infected with any sense of decency of thought.
And for 30 years this rallying cry has gotten nowhere but a more liberal by the day GOP.
When Politico runs an article rah rahing the conservative troops to rally to the GOP, it should be a blinding neon sign to anyone with the ability to think. And the sign says ‘run away screaming.’
The last election was stolen. Romney did win. Which is why the Kenyan wasn’t worried about the debate.
Which is probably their intent.
It was stolen. But from Conservatives in the primary when that Socialist abomination Willard was anointed. He was a ringer for Zero.
This guy has been working since 1952 to make the GOP embrace conservatism instead of going to a third (some say second) party.
After 62 years of trying the same thing and expecting different results, there’s the definition of insanity in there somewhere.
It would be the first good thing they aver did. Whatever it take to make people wake up to the reality of the GOP.
For 30 years people have done the “retake the party’ chant. What has been the result? No one will retake the GOP. There are now 3-5 pols in it worth voting for. The prior election had more than that. The one prior to that had more still.
The trend is the opposite of our friend. No one holds feet to the fire. No one retakes anything. People simply go to the polls, pretend Reagan is still there in spirit and then bitch for 2-4 years about how the very people they elected are bad.
No denying that. It happens every election. and has, over and over, since Reagan shuffled the presidential coil. So we can keep repeating the fail like mindless automatons or we can work to elect people we want rather than people we do not. This ‘the Dem is evil’ mentality has resulted in a wildly liberal GOP. Sure the dem is evil. So are most Republicans today. They gut military earned benefits, they champion amnesty, they lie like rugs, they back gay issues...
The Dem is NOT worse. Not any more.
Don’t make the oompah-loompah cry!
