A scathing profile of Gov. Susana Martinez published in the politically liberal magazine Mother Jones featuring 4-year-old recordings of Martinez and her campaign staff cursing about her 2010 election opponent and criticizing public school teachers as overpaid because they have summers off touched off more political skirmishing in New Mexico on Wednesday.
Martinez attacked the 5,000-word article as a desperate liberal media assault and asked campaign supporters in an email for financial help to fend off political attacks in her re-election bid.
Several Democrats seeking their partys nomination to oppose her in November used the article to blast Martinez, while progressive groups and the state Democratic Party joined in.
In the absolute height of desperation, one of the most radically liberal publications in the country is now peddling false, personal attacks against me, using stolen audiotapes from our debate prep sessions four years ago, Martinez wrote in a campaign email. Will you help me combat these desperate attacks?
The Mother Jones article recapped Martinezs rise to governor in New Mexico, noted her high approval ratings, and highlighted Republican interest in her ability to appeal to Hispanics and women on a national level. The article online linked to several previously undisclosed recordings of remarks Martinez made as a candidate for governor in 2010, including:
Martinez, while re-watching a debate between the candidates, said of her 2010 Democratic opponent Diane Denish: Im so tired of that little bitch.
Martinez, referring to public school teachers, said, They already dont work 2½ months out of the year, three months out of the year, but earn salaries at the same rate of people who do work 12 months a year. But she also suggested her campaign should avoid the issue.

Recordings surface in New Mexico governor race
The background is that a former supporter, Jamie Estrada (he was in charge of her 2010 primary campaign early on) likely stole the private recordings published by Mother Jones. He is charged in a federal indictment in 2012 with theft of the governors campaign emails. Martinez canned Estrada before the primary because she was suspicious of his actions and found he had lied to her. The emails ended up with the Democrats who used them to try to demonize her two years ago.
I LOVE Susana Martinez.
Is New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez the Next Sarah Palin?

MOTHER JONES is anti-woman and anti-Hispanic!
I loathe the condescending name that is “Mother Jones”...
Media and Government is “Mother Jones and Daddy Welfarebucks”
Four years ago she was a “law and order” district attorney from Las Cruces who had a steep political learning curve in her first statewide run for governor. Characterizing her opponents and issues the way she did in private conversations was part of that learning. Given that the Democrats say those things about Republicans in public, I’m sure in private they use even harsher words to describe GOP candidates!
I would ask “who cares what Mother Jones thinks?”, but there were members here falling hook, line and sinker for their Paul-Cheney fire-stoking.
Ditto!
You mean this story?
National Review:
Rand Pauls Foreign Policy: For the Situation Room or the Dorm Room?
Asked about the Halliburton charge on ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Paul softened his accusation by saying he wasnt questioning Cheneys motives, but he didnt recant. In his dark suspicions about Cheney, Paul is effectively to the left of most mainstream Democrats, who may disagree with and even hate the former vice president but dont think he supported a major war as a favor to his erstwhile company.

Eh, I’m not really going to get excited about someone(anyone) calling someone (anyone) a little bitch.
You should hear what I call the other Jersey drivers on rte 287 twice a day.
AND THEY DESERVE IT.
What’s bothered me about Martinez is some of the crazy psycho fascist stuff that’s gone down in her state lately. By her LEOs.
If Mother Jones (which is hard left, liberal doesn’t really describe them, they may actually be out of the closet commies) ignored that stuff in favor of this school yard crap they’ve probably done Martinez a big favor.
Bill Richardson could do a little cussing and name calling. The media forgot to go after him, so they are making up for it with Governor Martinez.
She should take on the j.r senator of n.m. in 2018. Turn the state red.
They already have 2 “REDS” in the Senate.
Joe Monahan has been pimping this hard on his blog. He’s so ridiculous with his daily, never ending attacks on ABQ Mayor Berry and Gov. Martinez.
Further proof that liberals regard minorities as their property.
