Oversight member on Lois Lerner: ‘Now I see why IRS is scared to give up emails’

Key members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform expressed outrage at revelations made in newly released emails showing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner coordinating with the Department of Justice on prosecuting nonprofit groups.

One committee member said the emails prove why the IRS is “scared to give up the rest of Lois Lerner’s emails.” IRS commissioner John Koskinen was recently threatened with contempt for stonewalling the committee’s investigation. Koskinen claimed in a hearing that it could take years to provide the documents requested by Oversight.

“The release of new documents underscores the political nature of IRS Tea Party targeting and the extent to which supposed apolitical officials took direction from elected Democrats,” Oversight chairman Rep. Darrell Issa said in a statement. “These e-mails are part of an overwhelming body of evidence that political pressure from prominent Democrats led to the targeting of Americans for their political beliefs.”

“Now I see why the IRS is scared to give up the rest of Lois Lerner’s emails,” said Oversight Economic Growth subcommittee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan.

when a Lernerite does govt emailing on a govt computer on govt-paid time and in the performance of her duties issues orders and communicates work orders to other govt officials and employees, the resulting orders and documents are not “her” papers and effects, but the property of the government

and other agents of the govt properly tasked with oversight have the right to them on behalf of the govt, aka “we the people”

there is no “right to privacy” when issuing work orders to other govt emplyoes doing govt work

at least there wasn’t before obamites started using govt offices and employees as tools of their private and partisan power (IRS. HHS. EPA. Parks. BLM. DOJ. etc)

Every time a govt employee logs onto a govt computer for email, they have to approve a notice that they are being monitored and their activity is used and is usable by law enforcement. Even if there is private content, the employee surrenders privilege upon logging in.

“Yeah, yeah.. When will someone in a position to do something actually DO SOMETHING??”

EXACTLY! All I hear from “our side” is a constant stating and re-stating of the crime!

HELLO! Republican Idiots and Media Talking Heads...We are not STUPID! We have been paying attention!

We already know what happened! We don't need to constantly be told and re-told!

We want our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to FREE SPEACH Protected!

We DEMAND Justice! Action!

It is not about what happened. It is now a QUESTION...What are you going to do about it?

How is it that Judicial Watch can get these emails and the Congress of the United States cannot?

You probably think your work emails are your private property & belong to you too?

The government emails in question are not her private property, just like her government issued computer & desk are not her private property.

Those items belong to the taxpayer just like your work emails belong to the company you work for.

Papers and effects covers emails and phone conversations.

Federal employees do not enjoy those protections using federal systems.

time to repeal the 17th Amendment... The parties have the control and know it... not the people.

Our current situation is the result of having a democracy and not a Republic. What has changed the game is the information age... what the parties could get away with 10 years ago they cannot today due to technology... Clinton’s Lewinsky situation and subsequent impeachment was the first shot across the bow... Government never moves at the speed of the economy it only tries to imped or slow it down.. Time to repeal the 17th amendment and restore the Republic!

If you have to restore from backup, though, it can take a while. Especially when you consider it’s a government employee likely doing the work.

"Does my employer have a right to look at my company emails?"

As a matter of fact, they do. They are also required by Federal Law to maintain copies or records of those e-mails.

Replacing the moths isn’t the answer. Busting out the porchlight is the answer.

Great analogy.

“A lot of people are going down over this. And most importantly a choice for Barack Obama has to be made, resign or be impeached.”

I like your optimism, but it ain’t gonna happen.

If the full force of government, coordinated with multiple agencies, used against political enemies - if that's not enough to be outraged and go to the wall for, tell me what is?

Too much power.

The IRS, Department of Justice, Bureau of Land Management, EPA, White House - they're all giddy with power. They are happy to take over people's land, water and resources and try to destroy them. The BLM shoots animals and destroys their resources, the FBI shoots the people they're questioning, the IRS tries to destroy political opposition groups, the DOJ protects thugs and attacks citizens, the Attorney General is charged with contempt and then threatens elected officials...the list goes on. When will it stop?

They are work emails from a government work account.

The emails are the work product of the U.S. Government and do not below ng to Lois Lerner.

As a government worker I can assure you the first thing you see when you log into your email...before you log in actually....is a paragraph worth if cautioning words explaining that your emails are not private, do not belong tk you, and are subject monitoring as well as public disclosure requests.

So no.....Lois Lerner is not entitled to any fourth ammendment protection covering her emails.

Does a congressional committee need to subpoena them to get them....probably....but Lois has no say in the matter.
