The Drudge Report always has its fun with misuse of images. But World War III is no laughing matter. In an attempt to paint Russia as hurtling us towards World War III, Drudge shows a picture of troops marching through the Ukraine, wearing Soviet-era uniforms. But the picture is out of context.
The picture is, in fact, from Odessa. Yes, there are significant numbers of Russophones. Yes, many of them may favor secession. Yes, some of the secessionists may have the same kind of romanticism for the Soviets that their Ukrainian neighbors have for the Nazi Banderites. But that's not what this picture shows.
This is a re-enactment of the liberation of Odessa from the Germans during WWII. Despite the popularity in some extremist corners of the Nazi-aligned Banderites, who exterminated a population of 80,000 Poles in one city alone, the Ukraine has always celebrated the day. Those are the uniforms worn by the people who fought off the Nazis during "the Great Patriotic War." The Soviet Union wasn't just Russia: From Trotsky to Brezhnev to Gorbachev, many Soviets were Ukrainians. And despite the horrors of communism, the Ukrainians have annually celebrated those who fought against the Nazis.
Andre Johnson, aka Christ Bearer, apparently jumped off a two-story balcony in what appears to be a suicide attempt after reportedly cutting off his own penis.
He was found by police lying on the sidewalk alongside a North Hollywood apartment at approximately 1 AM on the morning of April 16. He was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. No word on any attempt to reattach his penis.
Just yesterday, Christ Bearer released a new music video with Rugged Monk for OOOH!
If we weren't living though it ourselves, it be very hard to believe the events that have come to pass. Many years in the making but so much has transpired in such a short amount of time.
Couple that with huge technological leaps and it's no wonder many are having a hard time defining what they are seeing or accepting it.
We already fought WWIII it was misnamed the cold war and had two very notable hot periods Korea and Vietnam Civil Wars.
A worthy point:
83% profess faith in the Russian Orthodox Church (2013), but only 41% in another survey (2012)... what’s going on?
Well, your survey allowed the option for people who believed in God and were spiritual to define themselves as such, whereas the one I cited forced people to pick which religion they belonged to or state they were atheist.
I think it’s quite fair to say that about 42% of Russians identify with the Russian Orthodox Church politically, socially or even simply ethnically, yet haven’t accepted the entire belief system of the ROC. Sorta like the fact that 87% of Americans identify as Christians, but less than half associate with any specific denomination.
Nonetheless, even this represents fantastic growth, and completely obliterates the notion that Russia is becoming Islamic.
There is some obvious discrepancy, even still, however: Adding all “spiritual but not religious,” “undecided” and “unaffiliated Christian” still only gets you to exactly 83%, and I doubt 100% of the people in those categories see themselves as ROC. Looking into it, I think a 2012 Levada poll that found 73% are ROC is probably a more reasonable estimate of how many people have any affiliation with the ROC.
i think the OP misses the point. Swap those Red Flags for Swastikas , and swap modern Odessa for modern Berlin. THATS the point Drudge is making. This isn’t a “re-enactment”.. this is the real deal.
with the current US government i would agree - that bunch of amateurs need to keep out of it. I don’t normally agree with McCain, but on the issue of Ukraine, i’m as angry as he is. Obama just sends MREs instead of weapons ? How pathetic is that?
If i were Putin , i now know that America under Obama will do nothing, and therefore all bets are off. And that includes rolling the tanks all the way to Paris.
Bear in mind that Ukraine tank video - notice how the ground was wet and muddy? Well in Russia/Ukraine, it’s now the wet season - not good for tanks. Just wait until May/June when the ground gets solid.. Putin knows he has a window for “Greater Russia”.. and it’s this summer. And lets face it - do you honestly think that Marxists in the white house would threaten Putin with a nuclear strike if his tanks kept going ? Putin KNOWS that 2014 is his time. He won’t get another chance. THAT is the what you get when you elect a Marxist faculty lounge moron to the White House.
Those stats are very interesting. There are a whole lot more believers in Russia than one would think.
All those decades of persecution and the years of the Underground Church have served to make believers more firm and devout than American Christians.
The purest gold is that which has been through the hottest fire.
There is massive government interference by the Russian government in both political and economic systems. Corruption is rampant and the rule of law weak. The president is supreme over everything, the rule of a man, with political and economic opponents jailed, exiled, or killed. The government controls numerous businesses, and is increasing rather than decreasing their share.
How did that work out for Europe?
Nonetheless, WWIII is starting. Russia is making moves to take over previously-dominated countries, while outright taunting the USA. Other tyrants are realizing that the “USA will protect country X at all costs” treaties are BS, and that they’ve got a rare window of opportunity, 3 years to make great strides doing what other US Presidents would never allow and which our current POTUS practically encourages.
Drudge sometimes selects idealized images to indicate what’s going on. In this case, it’s kinda hard to show a photo of “Russian troops taking over Ukraine” when they’re operating without insignias and thru proxies, and often where independent photography thereof is nigh unto impossible. Yeah, he’s stretching it (as he often does), but the point is made: just a spark now, but WWIII has started.
I agree on the normalcy bias, riri.
Remember, though, that a lot has been happening all along, but the political theater was so realistic - and there was so much missing information in history books and in the news - that things were not what they seemed. I had heard of nwo, etc., going back to the 80s, but completely dismissed it as wacky. I just had never seen all of the conflict of interest evidence in the early 20th century. It was such damning evidence, it took a while to deal with it.
The technology - I agree - it’s the internet that allows information to get out. It’s just a hodge-podge is the only drawback, and one has to sift through it all.
Unfortunately, Russian rulers, whether Tsars or General Secretaries, have conquered believer and unbeliever alike. Heck, most of the European wars have been between Christian kings, and were straightforward attempts to garner prestige and power at somebody else's expense. They were holy only in the sense that some of the sovereigns considered themselves the Hand of God.
Yes. Some people don't realize that Russia only went part of the way towards freedom, but then under the control of Putin started going backwards towards the Soviet system. The (false) idea that the Soviet Union is so strong that it will take time for people to realize it is coming back to life.
I said this in the clear context of wars. Or did you miss that.
Actually, Hitler didn't seize the Sudetenland until 1938, less than one year before the start of WWII in 1939 - not 1933.
Hitler was Chancellor of Germany in 1933 (similar to Vice-President) and didn't assume (or seize) total power in Germany until 1934, after German President Hindenburg died and Hitler became President. Britain (under Chamberlain), France and Italy gave Hitler the go-ahead to seize the Sudetenland in exchange for "peace" after Hitler gave his assurances that he had no further territorial ambitions (we all know how that turned out).
Prior to seizing the Sudetenland in 1938, Hitler first seized the Rhineland in 1936, then Austria in 1938. Had the allies called Hitler' Rhineland bluff in 1936 and sent in troops to regain control of the Rhineland, Hitler likely would have been forced from office for that fiasco, since Germany was just started their military build-up in 1934 and by 1936 was still not ready for a war with the western allies and any show of force by the allies would have likely ended Hitler's control of Germany.
I will also add what the idiotic republican party thinks. They think they can disrespect their base and hopefully gain democrats and minority voters to vote for them. They think they get our vote because the opposition is so bad. We know it is bad, but if they ape democrat behavior, we really can’t say the opposition is any worse than they are.
That is why the GOP elites lose. The democrat party knows they have to please their base first.
Who respects a party that disenfranchises their base and whores themselves to appeal to voters who will never vote for them? Answer? The republican elite party.
These knot heads better wise up or they will get the blame for destroying this country.
Yes, Drudge was exaggerating. But there are parallels to draw to the previous World Wars.
