Cannot excerpt from phone. City demanding that citizens pay up to $10,000 for sidewalks in a crime ridden city. Watch as more people leave and the tax base dries up further.
There is a special place in hell for people who impose things lime this on hard working citizens.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -One by one property owners shared their stories of financial hardship, lost jobs, hours cut, and just being flat out broke in Allentown, where even the mayor admits, poverty is the citys biggest problem. But the property owners left City Hall shocked after the Allentown Planning Commission denied their requests for a break from a city ordinance that will cost each of them $8,000 to $10,000 for the installation of new sidewalks on their properties.
Vote Demonic Party, live with the results...
Hey, isn’t this the Big Bambu Bruce Springsteen’s hometown, the hard working steelers who got screwed by anybody and everybody but GOVERNMENT?
If you ask me, if you sleep with government dogs, you wake up with fleas.
This isn’t about sidewalks; it’s about payola, greed, graft and corruption of government. I could do a very large concrete driveway for $10K....
“..Big Bambu Bruce Springsteens hometown,..”
No, it isn’t. That’s Asbury Park NJ.
Sounds pretty pricey, I just poured a 12x24 slap the other day $750, clearly enough for a sidewalk in front of the average home.
I believe he was referring to Billy Joel’s famous song “Allentown” about this city.
Okay, my bad....just seem to remember him being connected with Allentown for some reason.
Let me guess, only the city approved contractor will be allowed to do the work.
Well at least they are getting a Dunkin Donuts.
These people on the board are disgusting.....they said that financial concerns do not enter into their decision making. One was a 71 yo woman who had no way of paying for it. Hope that one day they too fall prey to some similar scheme in their own lives.
“And we’re living here in ALLEN TOWWWWWWWWWWNNnnnn”
Without sidewalks
I used to be a fan but when he started spouting his hypocritical political crap, I couldn't stand him anymore. Although he does donate a lot of his time and money to local charities here, he's your typical limousine liberal now.
Allentown sidewalk Ping...
Yes, Billy Joel wrote about “Living here in Allentown”. But Springsteen is a Jersey boy, born and bred - that was always part of his shtick.
No problem, Gaffer - yer just confusing one interchangeable lib with another, is all... :^)
Actually Bruce grew up and graduated from High school in Freehold, NJ. He is linked to Asbury Park and the Jersey shore of course because he played so much there before hitting the big time.
Spot-on.
Got it, brother. Thanks!
“Pineybill”, huh? Methinks that would be “Pine Barrens” Bill?
I went canoeing in the Pines many years ago. Neat place.
I’m confused as to why they are making homeowners pay.
I’ve heard of special assessments done on property for such things as sidewalks, but, the assessment would attach to the property, to be paid whenever the property is sold.
If they did something like that, then you wouldn’t have the spectacle of an old lady being told to cough up ten grand today to pay for this.
I don’t see why they are asking homeowners to pay for it, but also don’t see why it has to be done in a strong arm way if it is being done in the first place.
I know nothing about Allentown, but it sounds like new sidewalks are the least of the city’s worries. From the tone of the story, here is a combination of property owners who cannot possibly afford this, have no need for this,& a city gov’t. who is padding the bill quite a bit. Is the city trying to acquire the property for some project or what? Placing liens on private property for something like this is beneath contempt. If the properties would go on sale for non-payment of tax liens,it would be interesting to know who buys it.
