This is really a very flimsy (ridiculous really) reason to declare that Rush is done. I agree with Rush that CBS obviously wrote off conservatives by picking Colbert, but it wasn't a surprise to me because Letterman was about as liberal as they come. He didn't even try to be nonpartisan. Ungar's point is that CBS only cares about advertisements in the key demo of 18-49, and they think Colbert can pull it in. However, the bottom line is this, even if CBS could hire a conservative that would pull in ratings, CBS wouldn't do it because this timeslot is a perfect time to ridicule conservatives. Humor is one of their best weapons.

What should one expect from Forbes’ “token lefty”—substance?

I’ll point out the obvious here....the whole gimmick of Colbert is his “I’m-an-idiot-Republican” act. That’s what people tune into and watch for thrills. So, CBS puts out the message last week....he won’t be doing his ‘Republican’ act.

What do you think happens when folks tune in on his arrival? Some dull guy with limited interview skills, and virtually no humor without his Republican act. He loses a quarter of his audience by the sixth week, and CBS admits problems by the sixth month. It’s a five year contract and I doubt if they realize the limited capability of this guy without his signature acting piece.

I hardly listen to Rush anymore, but it’s because I don’t feel I’m learning anything. In 1988, Rush was reading the news from all over, and it was impossible for most listeners to get most of it anywhere else. Rush has been overtaken by the internet. For many years, anyone who followed FR and some other websites would learn little or nothing by listening to Rush.

And Rush, Levin, Hannity, and most other radio hosts refuse to deal with what everyone in Washington knows: that Obama/Soetoro is almost certainly an illegal alien. And that his “birth certificate” is absolutely certainly a crude forgery.

They all offer the excuse: “We will never get him out of office with that stuff.”

How about this?-—Broadcast the truth, and the evidence, and let the chips fall where they may.

There are some “conservative” radio hosts who are themselves part of the dinosaur media, and are being overtaken by others for the same reason that the Washington Compost and the New York Slimes are dying.

Rush has been on the air over half my life. I have heard “the end of Limbaugh” stories every election cycle like clockwork.

Sans the Bill O Reilly schtick all that’s left of Colbert is Mr Goodwrench.

If you don’t remember his being Mre Goodwrench then you will be just as impressed with his real persona.

The RINOs want him gone more than the LIBs.

Rick Ungar should feel a bit embarrassed to be so excited about this.

Everyone knows CBS doesn’t make decisions based on ratings.

I have no doubt that Rush will retire on his own terms. Had he retired 10 years ago he still would have been a huge media success story.

I don’t like Colbert and never watch his show. Never watched Letterman either.

I have seen Rush declared “finished” by the left more than ten times in my adult life.

Well, this is good news.

The end of Rush = increase in ratings.

When 12:00 comes around at work, I know I can turn on the radio and listen to 3 hours of sense in an otherwise crazy world.

"Thinly" is an excellent adverb describing the action of this writer, ready to write Rush off based on a single observation made with regard to Colbert's comedic style vs. Letterman's. There is certainly something to Rush's observation about the comedic style of a Colbert v. Letterman, or even v. Fallon that goes beyond simply the age argument this writer goes on and on about. Colbert is not trying to build rapport with the audience. Compare this with Fallon, for example, who at least tries.

It's as if Johnny Carson had tried to host the Tonight Show as "Art Fern," or "Karnak" or any of his other characters, and no one ever met what he disclosed of his real persona.

Plus, this guy is obviously offended by Rush and Conservative politics, and spends half his column apologizing for it.

This is liberal screed disguised as "gotcha."

What is this...about the 1000th lib article declaring Rush is dead/through? Wishful thinking from another deluded lib. I suppose Ungar, like all libs, believes conservatives agree with each and every statement by Rush. I do however agree with about 90-95% of what Rush says. He’s right that there is liberal war against conservative America. They picked Colbert to succeed Letterman...not Dennis Miller or some other conservative. They can choose whomever they want....I’m not going to watch.

Rush has had more obituaries written about him than my neighbor’s cat. Might as well trash this one too.

I was a religious listener of Rush’s for over 15 years. Then we got a faster internet and I was able to download Mark Levin’s podcasts. Have listened to every podcast for over 4 years, except the guest host ones. I knew about Mark from Rush’s old tv show and FoxNews. Now I can’t bear to listen to Rush for more than a few minutes. If I happen to be in the car I’ll see what he is talking about. The situation is so dire in this country that I need substance, and education. Mark has it all and humor too. Have read all his books and anxiously await the next. Rush is a great guy but more of an entertainer these days. He has such a huge audience I wish he would follow Mark’s lead.

The writer wrote his own epitaph..... he knows not of what he speaks. He is merely a rider on the band wagon
