For future reference, go to Federalist #40, in which Madison lays out why the Constitutional Convention of 1787 was not a runaway convention. Billthedrill and I laid out the prose in such a way that it's easier on the eye.

A great reference. Too many Freepers have swallowed whole, the Bircher version of history.

Please. Their commission was to reform the Articles of Confederation. They gave us the present Constitution. Now I don’t know what you would call that but that is what occurred. I read the Federalist Number 40 and it expressly states they were to meet and consider the defects of the present Articles of Confederation and advise Congress of the cure so to speak.(I paraphrase.)

THE ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION IS NOT THE PRESENT CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. That is elementary logic. What those men did was great and they did what was necessary.

In addition, the demographics of today's America is not the demographics of the 1780's. We were one people then, today we are a cesspool. The delegates to any convention today could not even understand each other, linguistically and culturally.
