Sarah Palin: Elect Candidates who Support “Convention of States”
Copnvention of States ^ | 4/14/2014 | Mark Meckler

Posted on 04/14/2014 4:21:08 PM PDT by SC_Pete

Sarah Palin expressed support for a Convention of States this morning on the Fox News show, “Cashin’ In” with Eric Bolling:

“On a state level I think it’s very important that we find candidates and elect them, who would be willing to call for a Convention of States if need be,” she said. ”Because that is the tool the people have to rein in government.”

It’s been a great week for liberty. Also, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Washington Post George Will endorsed the Article V Convention.

As the list of pundits, leaders, and politicians who support a Convention of States grows, you can find out more about us here and join the movement here.

The Convention of States is a project of Citizens for Self-Governance.

Yes, it might take a miracle. But if God were in it, then we might get that miracle.

If not, I see no other option than certain state beginning to nullify the fed followed by financial Independence from the feds.

And take it from there.

Freedom is hardly won, easily lost, rarely recovered. But I think freedom is worth the price. I hope I have the courage of others before me who died for freedom. Woe is me if I don't.

The country is so far gone, this is the only approach that makes sense. If people would just take the time to read about the Convention of States approach, they would realize that done correctly, there is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE of a runaway convention.

An Article V Convention of States cannot amend the Constitution.
-
The current State resolutions calling for an Article V Convention of States must all use the same language.
-
The current language being used is:
"...for the purpose of proposing amendments to the Constitution which:
- Impose fiscal restraints on the Federal Government;
- Limit the power and jurisdiction of the Federal Government; and
- Limit the terms of office for federal officials and members of Congress."
-
An Article V Convention of States is simply a formal gathering of delegates
by at least 34 states (two thirds) to discuss, debate, and "propose amendments" to the Constitution.
- Each state would send delegates to the convention, selected by the various state legislatures.
States like California, New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois might send extremists,
but the convention will be a one state = one vote system.
-
Any proposal not within the stated purpose of the Convention of States
(fiscal restraints; limits on power and jurisdiction; limits on terms of office)
would be unauthorized, rejected, and not approved by the Convention of States.
-
Any proposal that emerged as a "proposed amendment" by the Convention of States
would still require ratification by 38 states (three fourths), the same as with any other proposed amendment.

That sounds great, but how do you keep the Liberals from coming in and trying to drive the agenda?

I’m for it.

Mainly because I look at what America has now become, and see there is no longer anything left to lose. Might have seemed too a dangerous gamble in the past to attempt such a thing. Not anymore.

How do we know the progressives wouldn’t take this over and do away with the 2nd amendment?(for instance)

The Convention of States would limit what could even be considered! Here’s the plan from the COS website....

Plan: COS’s plan is twofold

1. We want to call a convention for a particular subject rather than a particular amendment. Instead of calling a convention for a balanced budget amendment (though we are entirely supportive of such an amendment), we want to call a convention for the following purpose: Limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

2. We believe the grassroots is the key to calling a successful convention. We would like to build a political operation in a minimum of 40 states, getting 100 people to volunteer in at least 75% of the state legislative districts. Only through the support of the American people will this project have a chance to succeed.

http://conventionofstates.com/welcome/

In addition. it takes 2/3rds to propose, and 3/4ths to ratify. Right now, REDSTATES have close to what we need. But the window is closing—the longer we wait, the AMNESTY bomb will turn the purple states blue and the chance to take back our country will be lost forever.

IT’S WINTER AT VALLEY FORGE.

Really? “Do away with the 2nd amendment?”

It would take THIRTY EIGHT (38) states to ratify a 2nd amendment repeal... Do you think a 2A repeal would even make it out of the convention?

Here are your options as I see them...

1) Article V convention
2) State Nullification
3) Peaceful secession
4) CW2

There are safeguards against this, even statutory by the respective States, to retain control over the delagates.
Ultimately, the greatest hurdle that progressives cannot overcome is the 3/4 ratification requirement.
BTW, do you think the progressives were worried about us when they proposed and ratified their 17th Amendment?

Scotus has illegally amended the constitution dozens of times since FDR.

Obama determines what the law is.

Tell me of the actual, not paper personal protections that are still in effect.

We have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

Unlike almost the rest of the Bill of Rights, the 2A is alive. It exists not because it is written, but because there are supporting groups that promise to make electoral life very uncomfortable for politicians who think otherwise. Oh, and there are more guns than people in the US.

Over the past eighty years, the Left has gotten everything it hoped for and more without an Article V convention. It would be silly for them to promote one now.

Have you read either Levin's book or conventionofstates.com? If not, you should.

“but a COS could make things even worse” is not a valid argument
