Obviously, some of these guys were more than happy to play the “Big bad FED” but I really wonder what a lot of them were thinking. They left the scene abruptly. Could it be that a lot of them let be known they didn’t want any part of it? Let’s not assume they were all onboard. Yeah, they showed up but did a lot of them look around and say, “Bull sh$t”?
They are modern-day Hessians, on Viagra.
They were all gung ho when they thought they outnumbered the embattled ranchers. But when the tide shifted by 20 to 1 to the other side, they literally tucked their tails and ran.

The line of protesters, including the guys on horseback, were just for show. The very real threat was from the guys holding the high ground with long guns. I've only seen pictures of the one on the bridge. I'm sure there were others that slipped away from the crowd and quietly took up positions.

Personally I believe that some of those uniformed law enforcement would rather not have to be there as ordered by their commanders to stand against their fellow citizens.
I think that a few posters agitating for sniper training and armed revolution may sadly for the rest of us end up getting what they want.
I also believe that there could be outside agitators out there on the location that may be placed there by a government agency to encourage someone to do something stupid in order for the government to implement Marshall Law.
That's what we - patriots and defenders of the Constitution - will have to be very, very careful of in the future. I expect more standoffs like this. bammy and crew are itching for an excuse to impose martial law. You think he's bypassing Congress now? Ha!
So yes, in future incidents I would be extremely suspicious of the guy(s) running around the fringes agitating for escalation "We should just take these xxxxers out!" or "I'm not waiting for them to gun down those innocents...I'm going to ..." etc.
They want, they need for us to do something stupid, to give them an excuse. If it comes to a fight, it has to be unequivocally started by them. We basically need every minute of the next confrontation captured on camera, preferably from several angles. For example, GoPros with a good sized memory card can literally record for a couple of hours at a stretch.
Of course, even if we're smart, they are ruthless. I wouldn't put it past them to have a couple of guys on the payroll who would be quite willing to go ahead and take that first shot - at either side. They'll justify it as a sacrifice for (their vision of) the greater good.
Don’t Care who the frill they are. This is the still the USA. Why does two have there finger on the trigger of a rifle. A Grenade launcher you have got to be kidding me.

All outsiders should be viewed with a jaundiced eye. This is exactly why our government fears “terrorist cells”. This type of closed network has evolved to avoid outsiders.

In the open desert, those CS grenades are mostly useless. Pretty much a riot starter, instead of the intended effect.
These resources could be used to protect our southern border. Instead they are being used against our own citizens.
I defer to your expertise on it. All I know is that being prepared in this manner (what we could see) and possibly having unseen backup stores of a different sort isn’t something that real Americans do to other real Americans.
If my son were a BLM, Park Ranger or even a goon contractor that had participated in this, I would disown him completely. I didn’t raise him to be a tyrant.
