That's the title of a Bloomberg op-ed by Francis Wilkinson, who examined statistics from a report by the National Urban League about income inequality between blacks and whites in America.
Minneapolis-St. Paul. San Francisco. Chicago. Even Madison, Wisconsin. If you are politically liberal and value relatively high levels of income equality, you might live in one of these quintessentially liberal U.S. cities. Yet all four lurk in the bottom half of the 2014 National Urban League's State of Black America report on income inequality between blacks and whites. Among the many places where black-white income is less skewed are Phoenix, Arizona, Nashville, Tennessee and Columbia, South Carolina.
The inequality is sometimes intense. According to 2005-2009 data based on the U.S. Census American Community Survey, which was provided to me by John Logan, a demographer at Brown University, the San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City metropolitan area has an astonishing $56,000 white-black gap in household median income. The white-black gap in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington metro area is about $40,000.
There is no definitive cause, and explanations vary. Mathew Kahn, an economist at UCLA, e-mailed, "Educated liberals are tolerant people who are willing to live in racially integrated areas even if the minority neighbors are poor. Such liberals are more willing to vote for redistributionist policies and this may attract poor people to collect such transfers."
For an extreme example of rich and poor living cheek-by-jowl, consider New York's 14th congressional district, on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Liberal Elites in theses cities live in security-rich towers protected by legions of 'rent a cops'. Blacks in these cities prop up the elites based on bullshit promises that never come true - but will NEXT TIME if only all the blacks vote as a bloc for Democrats.... Part of this just leaps out at me the >> “Educated liberals are tolerant people who are willing to live in racially integrated areas even if the minority neighbors are poor.”<< is nothing more than often repeated Bullhockey. My life’s experience has shown me that the opposite is much more true. Educated Liberals are more likely to live in segregated communities that actively work to keep poor minorities as far away from them as possible.
Yes there will be some poor minorities in the area so that they can look upon them and say “I feel for you!” and thus satisfy themselves that they are good people after all.
That argument mixes cause and effect.
Whatever, if I were black or brown I might start by testing the concept:
I would say, “Nationally, whites earn more than blacks and browns and generally have lower rates of unemployment and ask myself, why is that?”
I would notice there are and have been many successful and rich blacks and browns and ask myself, what did they do differently than those consistently in the unemployed ranks or those on public assistance?
And then, if it was “too late” for me, I would examine the lifestyle of my children to see what changes might improve their future.
At this point, some would offer: “Or you could vote Democrat and remain on the plantation”.
Wealthy Silicon Valley Liberals, in concert with the local government in San Francisco, have essentially driven the poor Blacks out of the city. All the city-owned housing along the waterfront south of the Bay Bridge has been raised to make room for luxury living space for the Libs.
In 2004 I visited my home town of Minneapolis. I drove to where my uncle said he had once lived in the 1940’s (he is in Los Angeles now). He wanted a photo so I went over there and was shocked as I drove around the blocks in the area all the black men & women sitting on the front porch or the stairs out front in the middle of a work day. I had not seen it before. I had been away since the 1980’s. I still see the same names in politics now as I did then. Very few at the top ruin the lives of the many for their own personal gain.

And now they are complaining about the gentrification of the Mission District in SF,which was originally Irish,then became Latino.News the other day was 1700 Latino’s left and over 2000 whites moved in to the Mission.

Here in NJ the white liberals making millions in the “poverty industry” don’t even live in the cities (there are no “safe” places there). They commute there, making sure they are out by sunset. Darker players in the poverty sector set up residency laws and such (to get their own on the gravy train), but they themselves skirt the regulations by living outside the cities as well. My town, as part of an “NACCP settlement”, must open its civil service positions to Newark residents while Newark can require residency for its applicants.
In the end, they simply run out of “other peoples’ money”, and it isn’t just taxpayers fleeing. Companies that were forced to house, school, clothe, and feed millions of gibsmedats are simply leaving; that is why NJ is lagging behind most other states by any measure of economic health. While ethnically NJ is similar to the country as a whole, our gubmint worker class (still primarily white libs) is huge and VERY costly.
It appears government workers know how to keep the pump primed for their own benefit.
Considering the Lois Lerner horror - it’s time to rethink civil service. Protecting the jobs of biased sycophants was NOT the original idea... in fact that’s what the law was trying to safeguard us from...

High-minded liberals don’t live in poorer neighborhoods; they might move into a FORMER poor neighborhood after it has been ethnically cleansed (gentrified), but they don’t risk their cowardly butts in those neighborhoods while they are “poor”. Years ago Asbury Park NJ was supposed to be staging a comeback, trying to sell itself to wealthy homosexuals; construction began on hotels and such, but when the wealthy gays targeted by the campaign realized the hordes of gibsmedats weren’t being “re-located”, the “comeback” withered and died. Even mental patients know the physical danger to their persons...
Now they’re demolishing the unfinished shells...

The zombies of our permanent underclass don’t mind scandal (or crime) in government because in the end, they know they’re not paying them. They allow themselves to be led around by the nose because it really is free to them; they are the most fortunate “poor” people in the history of the world.
