Freshman Rep. Vance McAllisters days in Congress could be numbered.
No matter whether the Louisiana Republican resigns after asking for forgiveness for an extramarital affair, Republican operatives said at least four members of his own party could look to challenge McAllister this fall.
In Louisiana, candidates have until Aug. 22 to file the necessary paperwork for a bid, and all candidates who qualify for the ballot run on Election Day in November. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote, the race kicks to a runoff in December between the two top vote recipients.
McAllister, first elected on Nov. 16 in a special election in Louisianas 5th District, appears to be seen on video kissing one of his staffers.
Theres no doubt Ive fallen short and Im asking for forgiveness, McAllister said in a statement. Im asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone Ive disappointed.
Candidates listed as potential challengers in the immediate aftermath of the scandal include many of the Republicans who ran in the special election this past fall, including:
State Sen. Neil Riser, the Republican who lost to McAllister in the special election runoff. GOP operatives at the time said Riser was the heir apparent to the seat, which came open when former Rep. Rodney Alexander resigned to take a job in Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindals administration.
Former Rep. Clyde Holloway, who served in Louisianas then 8th District from 1987 to 1993. Holloway ran in the recent special election and came in fourth behind Riser, McAllister and Democrat Jamie Mayo.

Well if you want to represent me (and I am NOT in his district) I want you to avoid the pit falls of the DC elite. You know some how manage to live by your principles.
It could be that the voters are experiencing buyer’s remorse. Also, this scandal has a visual aid (videotape), which was not the case with David Vitter.
I’m sure that Neil Riser was discouraged by the last election, but I hope he’d consider running again.
Emily =’s Idiot.

Wasn’t this the same exact quote Bubba Clintoon told the press after Lewinsky gate?
Was he a RINO in other ways?
I’ve heard that.
Well, it IS Louisiana, and this didn’t involve a dead girl or a live boy...I’m not understanding what the problem is here.
If his constituents don’t demand his quitting, I can only interpret that they feel ‘represented’ by him.
On Immigration, Obamacare and free speech.
It is on tape and I doubt Duck Dynasty will endorse him for re-election.
Vitter did not admit much and did not fake being conservative.
Meanwhile, EWE is running for the 6th Congressional District seat !
People would not want to admit that they were fooled so soon after the Nov. 16 special election for the seat.
He’s pro-shamnesty and wants to “fix” Obamacare rather than repeal. He was endorsed in the runoff (against a Conservative State Senator) by Black democrat leaders.
He won because those Duck Dynasty reality show twerps endorsed him. Along with all the democrat votes he got their fan club was enough to put him over the top.
