(AGI) Kiev, April 5 - Ukraine has declared that they will not pay the price of almost 500 dollars per cubic metre for Russian gas, announced recently by the Russian gas consortium Gazprom.
Kiev has also accused Moscow of conducting 'economic' aggression'. "Political presure will prove useless, we are not accepting the price of 500 dollars", Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenuk said during a cabinet meeting.
He added: "Russia has not succeeded in conquering Ukraine with military aggression, so now they are opting for an economic aggression."

When it comes to internati9onal relations, the thing to understand about "moral high ground" is that it doesn't mean squat -- unless you've got the hammer, too.
He who has the power has the "high ground", be it "moral" or not.
Liberals have never, ever understood this.
Russia should just shut off the gas until they pay!
U.S. LNG exports are virtually nil.
Well dear...it is, after all, Ukraine that is the focus and what is happening there. Somehow people need to get a grip that the Nazi groups are used by all players.....who cares what nation has more or less of them...they gather where the gatherings afford them to fight and create chaos.....
BTW...Russia identifies them at least....as they do the Islamist thugs...we just call them whatever might be politically correct at the moment...or give them a new name so they can hide behind it.
The issues isn’t about where they are, it’s about their movement in Ukraine no matter how many are coming from outside...and who it is that is playing them. Of course all sides are....that’s clear.
lol.
The boot licking Red Borsht Crowd doing a fine job defending Mother Russia.
For the umpteenth time not a soul here is doing that....you guys must have some sort of deep attachment to Ukraine to consistently brow beat anything that doesn't adhere to your deep bias for Ukraine. Seeing Ukraine for what it is, and not what you might imagine it to be is not being for Russia...it's seeing that all players have a stake in Ukraine and they're all using whatever means available to play to win...and none are exempt from playing in the dirt.
Ukraine citizens are not the USA nor even remotely close to the EU....why do you think the EU refused to sign with Ukraine for full EU membership? Sheesh, they know it's not only a bankrupt nation, which they do not want responsibility for,..but they know how corrupt it is as well as Ukraine's difficulty in controlling it's violent nature to fight among themselves, even when their is no revolution or discord..... To think the culture is anything more than it is is simply naive.

"Most people do not know that in the USSR, the best and brightest went into KGB. The Communist Party was more subject to KGB than otherwise. The decision to fold the USSR and give up their empire without a shot being fired was an inhouse decision by the KGB leaders, as they were the only ones with the real information and numbers that showed them collapse was only months away. A surrender of epic scale, never repeated in history went off without a shot, only the KGB and other security organs of the USSR had power to end the communist rule and the empire."
The KGB is probably learning much from our NSA.

I only replied to someone else acting as Mod, bozo. Keep up. If you’re a full time Putinista, you must defend him and your small clique of cranks.
I’ve defended freedom for a long time, on three continents, and won’t give in to an argument that favors a self-serving autocrat even if some of what he says I agree with. Tyranny in the pursuit of virtue is still vice.
Even if it’s so, but still - the Russian military’s involvement isn’t a proven fact, the Ukrainian military and government have showed up as totally dysfunctional, so their calling their opponents “pirates” in a try to explain their failure is rightfully causing laugh. As with any kind of failure.
Dearest one, you don't seem to understand that the Russian's with their propaganda, are using the small amount of Neo-Nazi activity in Ukraine to broad brush a very diverse anti Russian, pro Ukrainian, nationalist, pro European, independence movement.
The issues isnt about where they are, its about their movement in Ukraine no matter how many are coming from outside...and who it is that is playing them. Of course all sides are....thats clear.
The current coalition in Ukraine can get no benefit from Neo-Nazi activity in Ukraine. In fact it would hurt their cause. Russia on the other hand benefits from exaggerating Neo-Nazi activity in Ukraine because they use it as an excuse to delegitimatize the current anti Russian, pro Ukrainian coalition.
That has been well documented here on these threads. Most people understand that. But you and a very dedicated small group of others here, don't.
To think anything differently would be "naive" or "biased"(those are your words) or just simply wrong.
You guys must have some sort of deep attachment to Ukraine to consistently brow beat anything that doesn't adhere to your deep bias for Ukraine.
Ha ha. I'm an American of Italian, Irish and French Canadian heritage with a deep attachment to freedom and the truth.
That's why I post here and have been doing it for over 15 years.
It boggle the mind at how stupid some people can be.
Putin expresses deep concern for his brothers in Eastern Ukraine. He’s so upset about their plight, that he has just doubled the cost of natural gas to them.
And you know what, some idiots here will miss this entirely, to explain how justified Putin’s actions have been. Why he’s only protecting the Russian’s interests...
If Ukraine had unilaterally raised those prices, Putin would have invaded. Then folks here would have said it was justified. Now Putin does it and you still get the odd comment talking about how justified his actions have been.
JHC folks, buy a freakin’ clue.
< Not you Solson >
Exactly!
“Even if its so, but still - the Russian militarys involvement isnt a proven fact[....]”
That is a totally false statement, and a very foolish one at that. Numerous videos demonstrate the troops who invaded the Crimea and mainland Ukraine were in fact Russian marines from the Russian Black Sea Fleet and soldiers from Russia. Some of the military vehicles still had their Moscow license plates showing.
“the Ukrainian military and government have showed up as totally dysfunctional, so their calling their opponents pirates in a try to explain their failure is rightfully causing laugh.”
That is just a lot of nonsensical and Russian self-serving propaganda. Russia committed acts of piracy, so the labeling of the piratical behaving Russian forces is fully justified. Recognizing an obvious fact has nothing to do with the Ukrainian failure to hold the Crimea. Pretty much everyone knew since 1991 that Russia could and would take the Crimea if and when Russia ever decided to do so, which is why an international agreement was negotiated to prevent that very event form occurring. Unfortunately, Putin’s Russian regime decided it could trash the international agreement and international law in the same way Hitler did with the German invasion and annexation of the Sudetenland. Hitler did the same with Poland using drugged concentration camp prisoners faked up in Polish uniforms to fake an attack upon the German radio station at Gleiwitz. Putin hoped to provoke a Ukrainian armed defense against his Russian troops pretending to be Crimean self-defense rebels, but the well disciplined Ukrainians followed orders and refused to take the bait Putin tried to use as an sham excuse.
You’ve an irrational attachment to Putin to defend his crimes contantly.
Chechnya was an independent state after Boris Yeltsin allowed it to separate. They had a President, and some sort of a government. However the government quickly unraveled; the country became a large safe house for criminals. One day a large, organized Chechen army crossed the border and invaded Dagestan (a province of Russia.) The rest is history. Today Chechnya, as part of Russia, has a stable government. It may become independent again, at some future time, on condition that it behaves as it is proper for a country. But this is not going to happen tomorrow because Russia invests a lot of money into Chechnya; independence is simply not profitable today.
When will Konigsberg be returned to Germany?
As soon as Germany brings back to life everyone who they killed in the World War II? Actions have consequences; otherwise the next generation would be eager to repeat mistakes of the previous one. Note also that the South of East Prussia went to Poland, and is now a part of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. I am unsure how receptive Poland would be to the idea of returning that land to Germany (consider the linked map.)
I agree with you. I’ve no Ukrainian heritage, but the jerks here who campaign for Putin’s tyranny in the world assume you must be a homosexual, a liberal, a Ukrainian, or a McCain supporter if you won’t buy into the idea that Putin’s bringing the virtues of a conservative utopia through his military aggression. Queer fish these Putinistas are.
